Professor Conley is amazing. I had him for two quarters and I wish I could have him as my teacher again. He is the best.
-Helpful during office hours and really gets things to make sense
-Tests are extremely fair and very similar to his midterm and final review packets
-Classes are entertaining hes very funny
Will Conley is the GOAT. The midterms were very reflective of what we were learning in class.
Nothing was unfairly graded in my opinion and it seemed like the grading was actually done in a way to give the student the highest possible score with the work that was turned in. The homework is a bit more difficult than the worksheets and tests, but this actually helped me to further understand the course material. Conley is extremely nice and always provided resources that allowed us to succeed in Math 31AL. I would 100% recommend him to anyone.
Dr. Conley gives the best lectures. He goes over every question with great detail in office hours and hosts 3-hour review session before each exam. He truly cares about student learning, though his homework sometimes would take a while to finish. 115A struck me as a hard class at first, but I ended up way better than I expected thanks to Conley. I wish he could teach more upper divs in the future! 🥰
Will conley is the greatest human being to grace the planet. I would trust him with my own children. Please take this mans class. Super nice, informative, and engaging. Everything was manageable. Will Conley is the definition of beauty.
He's the best seriously! I always struggled with math but he really made it easier to understand. I couldn't have had a better professor.
Take him if you can- use your first pass because his classes tend to fill up very quickly. He is an awesome professor- it always amazed me how he never even used lectures slides or referred to any notes, he just had everything in his head so he writes the notes along w/ you. He also color codes everything and organizes all the material on the board so it's easy to digest and write down.
Conley really does all he can to help students- he will stay after his scheduled OH to go over concepts at times and he will stay as long as possible for the review sessions to cover everyone's questions. He is also very patient and friendly w/ students, and it's clear that he just loves doing what he does, which makes the learning environment better. He will also curve the exams or grades only if it helps students, or take out problems in the hw if he feels like the questions were not fair.
I found the midterms to be pretty easy, and I did not have a strong math background (only took up to precalc in HS, and I was a transfer student who hadn't taken a real math course in years). the midterms were almost identical to the practice exams, w/ basically just different numbers or slightly different scenarios. Make sure you attend the review sessions cuz they help a lot.
However, I found the final to be considerably more challenging than the midterms. There were some surprise questions I was not prepared for, and overall it seemed like ppl in my class did worse on the final than in the midterms. I'd make sure to study well in advance for the final if I were you- I think everyone studied for the final like it was the midterms and basically waited until the review session to really start studying, which obviously was not good since the final deviated from the practice exams considerably more than the midterms did.
Labs were pretty challenging imo but luckily I had a good ta. Even if you're ta "isn't good" you can go to another TA's OH so I would not worry. Just make sure you go to OH if you're stuck on any problems, and don't feel bad cuz the majority of students in my lab section struggled w/ the coding
Professor Conley is one of the best teachers I've ever had. He is incredibly clear and thorough with his teaching. He's also very understanding and helpful for anyone who gets lost or confused. His prerecorded lectures taught me so many concepts that I really struggled to grasp in high school. I HIGHLY recommend taking any course he teaches.
If Peter Parker became a math professor. Conley was extremely accommodating with the online learning format. He didn't make live lectures or discussions mandatory, recorded his lectures, etc. He stays over his scheduled office hours time to help out students and even gave a 5 hour review session for the final.
Since this is technically the second time I'm taking this course (I took AP Calc AB in high school but didn't get a 5 on the exam), the course was manageable for me. However, the difference between my high school teacher and Conley is night and day. While my high school teacher wasn't bad, I never felt like I fully grasped the material based on her lectures alone. With Conley, I had a significantly deeper understanding of the material because he explains topics so that you understand them conceptually.
Great professor and great guy, I felt lucky to have him as a professor.
Do NOT take this professor. It said in my course that Conley will teach this class but instead some other TA called Timothy Smits taught us the whole quarter and he SUCKED! He never taught us anything. He just wrote examples on the board, poorly explained why the answer was X and expected us to understand. He never gave us foundations or fundamentals of ANYTHING. He also made the midterms and finals impossibly hard in which the WHOLE class complained yet he did nothing. He curved the midterms but NOT the final? Also, the whole class got in the F ranges during the midterms and final. He said he would give 20-30% of the class A’s yet only one person got an A !!??? He said that “if a professor makes his midterms and final easy, then he failed as a professor.” While I agree with him, i also disagree because what do you mean “failed as a professor”? You’re suppose to help us not intentionally make us fail.
Please do yourselves a favor and do not take this guy. He made my life and other’s hell. I took time out of my day to write this review, you better know I’m trying to save you. Better be late one quarter by not taking Math 31B rather than taking it with this guy. I wish I had waited.
