Prof. Roshini is the sweetest professor I've ever encountered. She cares more that her students have a positive experience with chemistry and are engaged rather than strict grading. If you get anything below an A in this class I would honestly be impressed because of how hard that would be to do. This is easily the simplest GE I've ever taken. All the content is very interesting, but honestly the lack of examinations gave me little motivation to give this class much effort.
You can get the textbook for free online, but you really don't need it.
Overall good professor. Tests are extremely fair. Only thing is her lectures are not enough, you need to spend time reading the book to get a good grade. She's very helpful and cares about her student's grades.
Professor Ramachandran is one of the best professors you will ever meet! She cares about her students and is willing to help in any way shape or form. Her class is fair; as long as you study the materials she provides, you will be fine. I wouldn't want to take 14B with anyone else. If you get the chance to enroll in her class, please do!
She is an amazing lecturer that makes it very easy to get a good grade in the class. Exams consist of similar problems found in discussion worksheets, homework and lecture slides. She responds quick to emails, she's very approachable, and I do not think there is a better chem instructor. You don't even have to read the textbook to do well in the class, just focus on everything she talks about in lecture. I strongly recommend her.
Literally love RoRo this was one of my first chem classes at UCLA and she was always so helpful and kind. Even in a class of 200 I feel like I still knew her relatively well. She tried so hard to make sure everyone in the class was understanding concepts in class. While you have to study for tests, I didn't think her exams were extremely difficult as long as you attempted to study and pay attention you really should pass. Such an adorable human would totally recommend and take again.
Honestly, I take back every good thing I said about Ramachandran. Her midterms and quizzes are EASY and do not prepare you well enough for the final. She spent the last two weeks rushing through what seemed to be A LOT of organic chemistry instead of reviewing questions she's never covered before in thermodynamics and kinetics. I didn't feel prepared for the final (there was no proper study guide or review session other than a lecture covering organic chemistry. I think the class would've been more properly weighted and we would've been more prepared for the final had the midterms and quizzes somewhat matched the difficulty of the final - so our grades wouldn't be so completely dependent on a final we weren't being prepared for.
Dr. Ramachandran was a super engaging lecturer and kind professor. As mentioned in other reviews, she really seems to care about the success of her students during the class. The material was presented in a way that was easily understandable and I actually enjoyed the O-chem part of the class, it wasn't too bad. I felt as I had grasped the 14B material relatively well through her preparation. There was also a lot of practice provided to do well on quizzes and midterms. The workload wasn't vigorous but there really was a false sense of security of your grade before the final. After doing well on both midterms, even scoring a 95% on one, and getting almost 100s on all the quizzes, I still ended up with a lower grade than expected in the class because her final was extremely difficult in comparison to her other tests, which were all very fair. The final literally dropped me letter grades down. Therefore, take Ramachandran if you want an easy going quarter but be very wary of being surprised by the difficulty of her final.
Dr. Ramachandran was a great teacher for 14B! Her TAs weren't very competent but the LAs definitely knew what they were doing. I recommend going to discussion sections, even though they aren't mandatory, just to get that extra practice. Her midterms and quizzes were fair, but the final really caught us off guard. It was more difficult than any of her past assessments and unlike the past midterms, she did not create a practice final. There aren't a lot of grades that go into the total grade so a bad final can definitely break your grade so watch out! I got As on both midterms and ended up bombing the final because I simply didn't expect the high difficulty level. She definitely cares a lot about her students and is very approachable. She does go over ochem material in the last two weeks but trust me it will come in handy for 14C. In the end, just give her the respect you would give any other professor in the department because she definitely deserves it.
Dr. Ramachandran is one of the nicest and most caring professors I've had. I think she's a much better lecturer than Scerri and I was surprised by how much I enjoyed the class. The discussions are just worksheets that are extremely useful for the exams and there are clicker points which is a nice litter grade boost. The tests were fair and pretty easy and you get the grade you deserve with her. I wish she taught another chem course so I could take her again!
