ramachandran is a great lecturer and really cares about her students. I think she relies on her TAs too much though and my TA was incompetent. I didnt do well on the final but I dont feel like it was extremely difficult. she just throws a lot of curve balls and so if you dont read the test carefully youll do poorly. but overall I think shes great. (a little lazy in some aspects but still wonderful) just do the hw and pay attention to detail when u take the test because im p sure thats what fucked everyone over

Ramachandran is an excellent professor who clearly cares about her students. Lectures are podcasted, and she really picks some of the best TAs. In addition, she provides several worksheets online to make understanding a little easier. I would definitely take this class again with her. The only negative includes the fact that she oversimplifies her lectures so the material being covered on exams is much harder than what is taught in lecture. For the most part, her midterms are fair, however, I did have an issue with how they are graded, especially the second midterm; I thought the grading was much too harsh(-10 points because my work did not match hers even though I got the right final answer). One other thing to really consider before enrolling is that she covers OCHEM unlike the other 14B professors, and it is as heavily weighted on the final as the other topics. This is an issue because the material is difficult, and she moves at a very fast pace. The other classes are just now covering material we covered in week 6. 40% of your grade is based on two midterms, 40% on a final, and 20% on 3 multiple choice quizzes, graded discussion worksheets, and graded homework/clicker participation. This allows you a guaranteed 20% if you study and just do the work, but if you mess up on one midterm your grade is kinda stuck. My advice is to go over her lecture slides, sit in the front, ask questions when confused (she can come off as condescending, but I do not think she means to, so do not be afraid), watch videos for further clarity, and to go to office hours. If you put in extra work, you will do well, just remember to weigh your options with other professors prior to enrolling. That being said you can not go wrong with Roshini for a solid MCAT Prep chemistry course.

It was my fault that I got a C and there is nothing wrong with this professor, but tbh she doesn't live up to the hype. She kinda just "moms" you and nags at the class when they do poorly, but she really does care about her students. The slides that she posts are oversimplified compared to what is tested, but overall an okay teacher.

I took Professor Ramachandran's CHEM 14B Class Spring 2018, and received an A.

The grading scale is slightly curved (90%-higher = A, 88-89% = A-, etc.).
The grading distribution is:
40% Midterms (2, lower midterm is 15%, higher midterm is 25%),
40% Final (cumulative), and
20% Quizzes/Homework/Clicker participation.

Professor Ramachandran genuinely cares about her students (multiple office hours, one-on-one appointments, feedback/evaluation surveys) and has multiple resources (LA worksheets, practice tests) to help her students succeed. She is very skilled in the field of chemistry, and lectures well in class. Her lectures are Bruincasted, and she holds Facebook Live review sessions before exams. Her exams are definitely more challenging than the materials covered during lecture, but students can prepare for her tests by doing practice problems in the LA worksheets or past tests. The LA worksheets could use more revision, since there were multiple errors on about 20% of the worksheets in the entire course. TA's are okay, and they get through grading exams extremely quickly. I thoroughly enjoyed the class, and she made an effort to get to know each student personally during her office hours. If she does decide to teach CHEM 14B again, I recommend taking Professor Ramachandran.

Dr. Ramachandran and 14B are the best combinations you could hear. I failed this class due to my sheer incompetence. Only issue I believe is that LA worksheets often had errors so you really had to talk to the T.A a lot just to make sure. Ramachandran herself though is often very busy so she had LAs lead her office hours which could be a hit or miss since her LAs do need improvement (they aren't totally bad. just be patient with them). I believe she will no longer be teaching 14B though? But if she does, take her.

Tips to succeed in this class where I failed:
-Ask for help. Don't be a whimp.
-Do the LA Worksheets
-Make sure you do the Discussion worksheets and completely understand them.
-Make sure you understand her lecture slides.
-Have all the material you learned that week mastered by the beginning of the following week.

I would 100% take this class with Prof. Ramachandran again.
Most of the class did badly on the first midterm by forgetting to balance equations even though she reminded us to, so at the end she weighted everyone's worse midterm at 15% and the better one at 25% unlike original 20-20. Final was 40% and everything else 20% for a total 400 points. But there was SOOO much extra credit it could save some bad quiz grades, graded discussion points, and missed iclickers. Clicker questions are crucial easy points and mostly in the first 15 minutes of class, don't miss them.

After the first midterm she dedicated all her time for an entire week to have office hours with any student who felt worried over their grade and wanted help figuring out how to do better. She gives practice exams for all midterms and tests and grades all free response herself.

Dr. Ramachandran and my TA Nick were the best duo for Chem 14B. Dr. Roro genuinely cared if we understood the material, and spent countless hours meeting with all of us to make sure we knew what we were doing right/wrong. There is no extra credit offered, however there are easy points such as graded discussion worksheets, and easy quizzes. This class was seriously doable if you put in the time to study, balanced equations, and listened to what Dr. Roro suggested you do. 10/10 would recommend for any class. Love you Roro & Nick

This class was too hyped up. The reviews for Dr. Ramachandran were tempting, so I signed up to take 14b with her. The midterms were relatively easy and straightforward, but you had to do EVERY single problem and step correctly. God forbid you make one mistake, minus 5 points. Her grading is ridiculous! She takes off points for the smallest things and is not lenient when it comes to giving partial credit. Those small points make a huge difference when the midterms are out of 80 points. She really does not know how to make a fair grading rubric. In addition, she said that the final was going to be at the same scale as the misterms( in terms of difficulty) so everyone wasn't expecting a hard final. Wrong! She made the final sooooo hard. There were kids who got 95% on the midterms( like me) and then ended up getting a C on the final and then our final grades dropped a WHOLE LETTER GRADE. Overall, the class is not too bad in terms of material and she is a pretty good lecturer but she grades harshly, so watch out. The TAs are fine. I thought that this class was going to be easy to get a good grade, but not by the way she grades lol.

Educative and inspiring classes like Dr. Ramachandran’s are what make UCLA a world-renowned academic institution. The student-focused learning environment she, her TAs and LAs have put together will prepare any motivated student for success, and I highly recommend you consider taking the course with her!

In terms of the class's material, Dr. Ramachandran truly goes out of her way to provide multiple opportunities to work with the content. Posting two entirely conceptual worksheets, multiple hand-picked book problems, engaging videos and hand-solved free response per week(!), she gives you ample material to succeed on her fair midterms. If you do plan on taking this class, I cannot reiterate enough the helpfulness of doing and re-doing the math problems, not blindly, but analyzing them and seeing where you could mess up. Do you know the units for all the answers? How do you think you could rewrite this question? As for the midterm's conceptual problems, Dr. Ramachandran’s powerpoints are a gold mine for true understanding; not a single bullet point is wasted. I would highly recommend internalizing all these details by yourself; they always show up in the multiple choice of her tests. In addition, if you are planning on taking the MCAT, seriously retaining all of Dr. Ramachandran's lectures is a double-win, for they cover every possible thermodynamics/kinetics concept that could show up on the test!

In terms of the grading, there are many opportunities in this class to catch up if you slip up on a midterm. Though the majority of your grade is dependent on the midterms (which are very fair) and the final, Dr. Ramachandran offers multiple quizzes online and in-class that are completely doable given you go over the material posted on CCLE. Additionally, the LAs and TAs are helpful in answering questions quickly on the discussion forum and during discussion sections. In fact, Dr. Ramachandran even offered individual sessions in our quarter after our first midterm so that she could give personally give advice to anyone who needs it! If you ever feel stressed, know that in this class, there is always someone you can reach out to.

Overall, it was really fun to take this course with such an inspiring professor who cares so much about her students’ success. I highly recommend you act on any opportunity to take this class with Dr. Ramchandran!

Ramachandran is a very nice, approachable and caring professor. Her tests and material are very straightforward. I didn't take AP Chem in high school - i did take honors Chem - but I had a very easy time learning the material. She gives you a lot of resources: practice midterms, practice final, weekly ungraded homework with answers, videos, etc. Our final was on Thursday and she had office hours from 10-5 on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday. She even did a Facebook live Q&A. If you've had previous experience with Chem, you will have an easy time. If you haven't, you'll survive. Highly recommended!
