I would recommend this class 100%
It really has to do a lot with the professor because Dr.Reslan made this class enjoyable. She is so helpful and thankfully the tutor was helpful as well. This class was probably my least stressful one.
YOU NEED TO TAKE THIS CLASS! I’m gonna keep this review simple.
Reasons to take this class:
1. It’s so easy - I can almost ensure you will get an A
2. Prof writes practice tests before the midterms and final that are literally the tests you will be taking
3. Prof is so funny and such a sweet person
4. There is barely any homework
5. You get chem credit for such an easy class!
PLEASE TAKE THIS CLASS. TRUST ME.
Prof. Reslan always gives out clear study guide and plenty of practice questions. She also makes herself available through office hours and after class and truly cares for all of her students. Her classes are so fun because she likes to make jokes every now and then. Prof. Reslan is a very likable person, and I would definitely recommend taking Chem 17 with her!
Dr. Reslan is a great professor. She genuinely cares for her students and is always looking for their best interests. For both Midterm 1 and 2 she removed topics so that it would be easier for the students to take her midterms. All her midterms are very fair. Her midterm 2 was. a bit long and most did not finish, but that was the department forcing her hand and not and fault of her own. I would definitely take any class with her as a professor!
take this class with Reslan!!!! Could not recommend her more. She's a bit disorganized with her lecture but holds amazing review sessions and is very helpful during office hours. The class itself can be difficult because it's a lot of material crammed but she at the end she did listen to students and cut material. She values our feedback and provides great formula sheets. Her exams are very fair and she gave good practice exams. Discussion is not mandatory but highly recommended because that's when you actually do practice problems. Lectures were recorded. Best chem teacher :)
This was by far one of the best chemistry classes I have taken. Reslan was very clear and exact in her work and gave a lot of examples. I took the asynchronous class and it was very easy. There were a couple take home quizzes that were very closely related to lecture recordings. The recordings were a bit long but it was only because she did a lot of practice examples and gave full informative explanations. She is a quick responder to emails. I personally did not go to the discussion sections, but some of my friends in the class said they were very informative. The TAs also collabed and sent out weekly review summarizations of the content. The practice midterms and final were almost the same as the actual tests, and for our final, she gave us at least 30 points in extra credit questions. Highly recommend this class even if it is just for a GE!!!
Asynchronous Class checklist:
Never attend zoom meetings except for the first one because you're afraid that zoom attendance/participation matters (it doesn't) ✓
Never attend discussions except for the first one because you're afraid that discussion attendance/participation matters (it doesn't) ✓
Skim the textbook on maybe one occasion ✓
Never watch a recording (besides a midterm/final review session) ✓
Miss one week's worth of homework and bs all the homework that you do do ✓
Turn in two quizzes late and don't turn in one quiz at all ✓
Study the hell out of the practice midterms/final an hour before the midterm/final ✓
The midterms are ridiculously easy if you study the practice exams that professor gives out. A majority of the questions on the exam are word for word, if not number for number, the exact same as on her practice versions. The format is the same too in terms of number of multiple choice and free response questions.
I forgot how she weighted her class but pray that it's heavily weighted on the exams so you don't have to do any work throughout the course.
Quizzes are easy, you get unlimited tries on the homework, and exams are free.
You can also bully her into making tests easier if you complain enough which is kinda crazy but definitely unnecessary.
The two times that I saw her was during the in person finals, she seemed really chill. Good vibes.
If you are a hands on kind of learner who needs a lot of homework and classwork to do and check-ins to make etc., maybe try her in person class, but bottom line, this review is probably not for you.
Randa Reslan is one of the best professors at UCLA. For her tests, just study the practice tests as most of the questions on the test are the same as the ones on the practice test but with slightly different numbers. Overall, very easy class. I personally just watched the lectures and didn't even attend class as they were recorded, and this was enough to earn an A+.

If you want to understand Chemistry and pass, take her. She is literally god sent. Her office hours, her lectures, everything, top tier. I only got. B+ because I crammed everything about the final in one night, but i'd say a B+ for that is pretty good. She isn't here to trick you, seriously, her exams are straight forward. The only flaw is that the final is 50%, midterm 35% i think, so exam heavy, but really, her study guides, her review sessions, DUDE she hosts like ALOT of review sessions, they're sooooo helpful. Her practice exams are very similar to the exams. overall best professor ive had at UCLA thus far.
