Quarter: Fall 2018
Grade: N/A

The course reader required for the class is quarter dependent so please do not buy old course readers. A workbook, that cannot be purchased separately, comes in the package with the reader and it must be turned in for points.

Interesting class with material relevant to daily life. It will help you become more aware of how your diet and fitness decisions impact your overall health. In order to get an A, you must read the course reader and thoroughly understand the content within it. There is also a project that is not difficult to do.

***THIS WRITTEN REVIEW IS STRICTLY FOR JULIE MARTINEZ (TA)***
I literally can not believe how this TA screwed over my grade. She took off points every single week, on every discussion worksheet, off of answers that I would completely base off of her short presentations and slides AND what she would say to me when my break out room would call her in. She looks for VERY specific words -> if you don't include it, automatic 7/8 or less. She ended up dropping my grade a letter grade and it did not get better over the ten weeks. AVOID THIS TA AT ALL COSTS. She seems really nice but literally will not cut you any slack. When I asked her how I could improve, all she basically said was to use more specific words(??) and to try harder(??) I've always scored 100% in discussion for 7A and 7B but this TA really was not it.

Well what can I say….. the class was tough and the exams were impossible. Very difficult conceptual questions that were ten times harder then the clicker questions or the CLC worksheets. I felt very discouraged each time I got my score. No matter how much you studied you could never get a good mark. Esdin, while a good lecturer, had an an aura of arrogance which was hard to ignore and made students feel even worse. The class was divided in two: half of the students get A’s on exams while openly bragging about having access to old exams, colluding with others and using Chegg, and the rest of us who attempt it honestly and leave with the C.

Take this class! Easy GE, and overall a fun class. The only homework assignment is due at the end of the quarter which is a project. You use your own personal health data for this project and keep track of your diet and exercise for a week. Professor Esdin is a great professor, and is easy to follow along. The content is engaging and you do not need any background knowledge of physiology. My TA, Muhammad, is also really nice and there to help you. However, you are required to purchase a $100 textbook. I will be selling my textbook for much cheaper! Text me at **********.

Quarter: Fall 2022
Grade: A

The entirety of the LS7 series really upsets, frustrates, and discourages me. The exams are not a direct test of your knowledge of the material, the questions are convoluted, and there are often multiple ways to interpret a question. The readings were way too much (why am I teaching myself the material before learning it from the professor??) and the reading based quizzes are ridiculous.

I spent over 10 hours each week writing my notes and making sure I get everything. Thankfully, the final exam was easier than the midterms, and because of my extensive notes, I was able to find a lot of the answers in them-- I recommend you work really hard during the quarter, because that will allow the final exam to be a not-so-stressful experience (I personally did not study for the final exam thanks to the hours of work I put into the class prior, and got an A- on the final, and thus an A in the class).

I am selling my reading notes (170 pages) for $20 and my lecture notes (87 pages) for $15. I am also selling all my completed reading guides for $15. Contact me at ********** if interested, or if you have questions.

Good luck!

Tbh, this class was not a lot of work. You just had to watch the 50-minute MWF lecture and take a participation quiz after. I suggest for notes that you write word-for-word (in most cases) what he says during lecture and you will ace the participation quizzes. Most people who complained (particularly in fall 2020 to spring 2021) probably did not take good notes and skimmed through the video which came back at them during the biweekly lecture quizzes. Watch the lecture videos when it is posted and take the participation quiz immediately after so that you can get it out of the way and don't forget it later on since the deadline is kind of wonky (10 pm of that same day). There are other aspects of the class like a lifestyle project, start in week 7 and you'll be done before week 9. Follow exactly what your TA suggests (i recommend Norma). P.S. I'm selling the course reader and practice test book for $40 (originally $120). Also my notes for $10. pm me @ ************* if interested. Good luck with the class!!!
