Dr. Casey is my favorite lecturer so far. She is very clear and engaging. Easy to understand her notes, and makes helpful videos for the exams/practice problems. Her tests were fair, but it is so easy to make small mistakes in this class which can accumulate quickly. The labs are basically completion scores and she gives extra credit. I took this class at the same time as Chem 14B with Lavelle and the topics lined up perfectly. Would highly recommend taking these together.
Casey really is a nice lady, but she is a lecturer not a professor. Knowing the difference in key. She has lots of time to make the class more challenging and work-heavy than it needs to be. I put the most work into this class out of all my other classes, and still struggled to do well. The only reason I got an A was because the final was open note and team work available. I bombed the midterm even though I studied. Her rubric was so complex that something as simple as a graph title could really hurt your grade. Also the way the pre-labs are graded was so unfair. My TA would take off so many points compared to other TA's. I know people who took it with Pang and thought it was really easy so if you can, TAKE PANG OVER CASEY.
Dr. Casey is hands down the best professor in the chemistry department. She cares about her students like no other. I sadly did not get to meet her in person due to the virtual learning, however, she still managed to make the class engaging. She emulates so much passion for the topic. She made balloons to teach mo theory, she spent countless nights creating lbl's and pdq's so we can have a better understanding of the topic, and she even stays up late to create jokes/memes for us. If you have the opportunity, TAKE HER. You will not regret it and you'll leave the class feeling much more intelligent.
14AE--To pass up a class taught by Dr. Casey is a huge mistake. She is one of the most wonderful professors I have ever had the privilege of learning from. She is extremely knowledgeable and clear, and never turns down a question. But what I loved most about Dr. Casey is her dedication to the students. Everything she did was to help us in any way she could. She cares more about you as an individual more than content, and that is hard to find in stem classes. Her class was fair and manageable, and I found all of the work worthwhile (no busy work). I urge you to take a class from Dr. Casey, you will NOT regret it!
Dr. Casey and her team of TAs and LAs are amazing! They are all super helpful, accommodating, and willing to answer questions. The lectures were pretty engaging (especially for a zoom class), and Dr. Casey is so fun and sweet. The textbook is provided so you don't have to worry about buying anything too. The quizzes are mainly calculations/concepts, but the exams are very heavy on application. Dr. Casey gave us a lot of extra time though, so they were actually pretty manageable when you get time to relax and think about the questions. There are a lot of points you can earn based on completion in this class, and you're allowed to retake a lot of assignments so the grading wasn't super harsh. The discussion worksheets helped me understand concepts a lot deeper and made the discussion time worth it. However, it is a whole 2 hours which can get kind of exhausting over Zoom so I wouldn't recommend if you can't commit to that+working on the worksheet outside of discussion.

Dr. Casey is one of the best professors I've ever encountered in UCLA. My foundations for chemistry were pretty bad, and I was scared that I couldn't catch up. Thank GOD Dr. Casey is just sooooo good at teaching everything that I didn't need to self-study like I did for other classes. She's is extremely sweet and nice; her lectures had such nice atmospheres that they really encouraged me to interact or ask questions. Her tests and exams were fair; you'd nail them if you study everything properly. Pick her as your professor; you won't regret it.
This class was one of the first classes I have taken at UCLA and I can say I've learned more from the past 3 months than I have for the past four years in Chemistry. Every resource she provides has beneficial value to it and will definitely help you learn the course material. Although you can really only miss around 24 points for an A, putting in the work will pay off and the professor (as well as MOST of the TAs) are really there to help you succeed - really take advantage of office hours and LA workshops because they come in handy. The readings in the book really help solidify your understandings for the lectures and discussion worksheets and overall, it is a great class.
