The lectures were quite boring but since the class is so easy, it's easy to start day dreaming and then snap back into lecture and not have missed much. The lab sessions were definitely where you needed to pay attention to detail since we learned how to utilize the jamovi software. Professor Du was kind and attentive to her students and has three grading methods. She picks whichever one makes your grade the highest and also gave extra points on exams, as well as dropping our lowest homework assignment. She allows for cheat sheets on exams which were life savers. I 100% recommend this class with this professor. Just make sure to understand the homework assignments to ace the midterm/final. The averages were both for always super high (late 80s.)
easy A
I went into the class with a pretty extensive stats background. Lecture was pretty unclear, but the professor was very very nice and understanding. Her teaching method wasn't my favorite especially in terms of a Statistics course and I wish we had used SPSS or R instead of Jamovi. You get a cheat sheet for the exams and the questions are very straight forward. She allowed you to take the quizzes as many times as you want which was easy points and helpful for the exams. Very nice lady, but if you struggle with stats you may have a bit of a hard time following her lectures.
Professor Du is a treasure! I found this class to be straight-forward, easy and very much geared toward student learning. Professor Du really seems to care about her student's learning and she is such a great lecturer!
This was one of my first classes at UCLA as a transfer student and it was not only an easy A but easy to understand as well. The professor has a thick accent but you get used to it after the first week. There are weekly quizzes and homework but you get unlimited attempts on the quizzes and one try for the homework, but the homework is pretty straightforward. The midterm and final were multiple choice and very straightforward. I barely studied and put time into this class but understood everything well and got a 100% in the class.
TAKE HER IF YOU CAN! Took during Fall 2020, she is incredible. Answers emails quick, TAs are helpful, and she genuinely wants you to get an A.
Incredible. Such a supportive teacher and a flexible class in a time when many classes really aren't the best due to remote learning. Super flexible and Du really does care about the well-being of her students. The workload is manageable and it is clear that the focus is understanding the concepts rather than memorizing formulas or vocabulary. Highly recommend taking psych 100A with Du.
She is an angel. Got an A+ with minimal effort. Lectures are clear and she goes above and beyond to make sure students understand the material. The TA's, Egamaria and Tristan, were also great.
The second, shorter lecture of the week is kinda like a lab, it always ends early.
We usually had a quiz each week with endless attempts so you can get 100%. There was also an assignment every week (go over answers with peers from groupme) that you can always get 100% on if you check answers.
The last thing was a group final project that follows the assignment formats.
Take her class!!! And be nice to her!!!
Professor Du captured the majority of the class by her first lecture with her sweet character. She gives fun and sometimes silly examples to help us remember the concepts she teaches. Although the material was perhaps on the lighter side compared to other classes, her course is worth taking purely for the good vibes. She tested us frequently with quizzes and assignments, and the final was a group project with a group of our choosing. Take this class!
Professor Du is a super sweet professor and you can definitely tell she wants her students to do well. I don't consider myself a math person, but I didn't find this class difficult. Her lectures can be a little hard to focus on sometimes (but that's expected with a math class), but she makes the content really accessible. Your grade mainly just consists of a few quizzes, assignments, and one final "big" assignment. However, all of them were super manageable and none of them took a ton of time. You can also take the quizzes multiple times if you get a bad score on the first round. I can't speak to how this class is in person (I took it online due to COVID), but overall, I highly recommend Han!
