This class was very well taught. Professor Radke was very understanding, and would accommodate for students' needs whenever he could. He made sure we had an entire week to do assignments, and would answer any questions we had on Campuswire or during Office Hours (and he had multiple to accommodate for time conflicts). The homework was kinda long but doable, and the tests were extremely convenient, because he gave us 24 hours and the questions accurately represented what we learned in class. Radke never rushed through the lecture, which I always appreciated, because he actually made sure that we could understand the material. I'd just be careful not to make any stupid mistakes on the midterms or final, and make sure to turn the homework in on time, because the grading distribution was 25% for each midterm, 30% final, and 20% homework. Radke is an excellent professor and such a cool person in general and I appreciate all the hard work he put into making this a good course!
If you want to both learn and get an A, professor Radke is your guy. He's the most caring professor. His lectures are not too fast, not too slow, and are super friendly. He cares about students understanding the material more than just bell-curved grades. His tests are not tough, usually easy, but not too easy. Homework doesn't take too long and is not tough either and is still super helpful to prepare for exams. I'd definitely recommend taking 33A with professor Radke!
Decent lectures, fair exams, not the most organized professor. Homeworks were difficult but Radke's helpful during office hours.
If you're learning algorithms for the first time, know that it has a steep learning curve and homework assignments can be a time sink.
Unless you're less than 0.5% away from a better grade, I wouldn't bank on the extra credit.
Professor is very kind and helpful however the workload for this class is quite big. While the midterms where easier than the assigned HW. He asked us to turn in a HW before the final that had no chance of showing up on the final because the HW required using computers while the final does not allow calculators (a bit counter productive for students that are struggling in the class). If you are a math genius this class should be easy if you not it's not great.
This professor is amazing professor. His lectures are so well presented that one does not need to read the textbook to fully understand the material. He is very through and helpful in and out of office hours; he wants the students to understand the material. He even gives extra credit for showing up to class. His exams are very straight forward and simple; both of our midterms were significantly easier than the homework question he does. I would recommend this professor to anyone.
I feel the professor is far underrated on Bruinwalk. I think he is amazing(probably one of the best Math professors I've ever had in ULCA, comes closely next to Michael Andrews lol)
No one should be scared by this class because it's content is inherently easy. Also the professor presents the materials in a very clear and easy to understand manner. He would do summaries and plenty of examples whenever we learned some new concepts so that we don't get lost. He has extremely clear notes, and one upside of that is even though you missed a couple of lectures(cuz it's 8 a.m. class) you can just borrow notes from your friends and you should not have any problem with understanding it.
His midterms and finals are really fair. Make sure you do the practice midterms and final and understand them well bc the actual exams are very similar to the practice ones. TBH the class is so easy that I do not have to do any outside study by myself and is still able to ace the tests.
The only downside of this professor is that he assigns way toooo much HW. A lot of them are just easy and redundant(but still requires lot of computation) so doing them is like a waste of time. If he can improve on that in the future, then literally it will be a perfect class!
Essentially, he is one of the better professors here at UCLA where he tries not torture the students. His notes are well written out and easy to follow later when you try to study them. His midterms are fair in the sense that there are no curveballs thrown at you. He does give some type of proof-based question but it isn't intensely rigorous; they are like mini-proofs. One of the unique things about Radke is that he has office hours 3 times a week and ALWAYS writes down his office hours at the beginning of class to remind students. He even takes the time to go to an empty classroom if there are many students in his office hours. Hmm what else... He does stutter a lot when lecturing but that is like the only small negative thing about him. I see a lot of reviews below say that he gives out a lot of homework and sometimes they were a lot, but i find it to be fair since the exams were easier than the homework. If I could Radke for an upper div class I definitely would!
