Best introductory class for bioengineers. It's basically a seminar where different researchers come in and talk about their lab/what they're doing. It's really interesting to listen to and get that valuable perspective. The class is really easy; all you have to do is write 3 papers or so over the entire quarter and ask one question during lecture.
I went to three out of ten lectures-but I honestly do wish I had gone to more lectures. Each week, a new professor comes to class to discuss their research regarding bioengineering. Attending class would have given me a deeper perspective of the field in general and the diverse research opportunities in the major at UCLA.
The grade is based off of 4 assignments. You must ask one question in class to fulfill your participation points. The other three assignments are all technical writing essays. Honestly, the essays are a great idea, but I had a TA who didn't teach us how to write research papers or review papers. This class really depends on your TA and I don't regret taking this class at all.
Overall, this class is great and I recommend going to all the lectures.
BE 10 was an amazing class. It helped me confirm that I wanted to major in bioengineering and was super interesting!! You get to hear from tons of cool people about their research. The papers are annoying but also graded hella easily.
