Rubin is BORING. I'm not one to fall asleep in class, but Rubin was really asking for it. He knows is OChem, but someone needs to breath some life into this man! The tests were similar to previous exams posted on his website, and that was very helpful. Overall I like organic chem a lot, but at points it was hard to keep my enthusiasm up with such a dull prof.
Rubin is a nice guy, but is hard to understand during lecture. His exams are pretty tough but he gives a very nice curve. You pretty much have to teach yourself the material through the chem textbook. I guess you can say his exams are fair, but half the time you don't really know whats goin on....
One of the most sweetest, kindest, smartest man i have seen at UCLA. BUT..... Not a very good and effective teacher. If you have to take him like i did, utilize any tutor possible whether its your TA, Covel commons or paying (i paid $30/hour). Go to his office hours when he hands out stuff to go over it with him. very approachable of you have problems. emailing him is easy because he will reply and wont take too long. I sent him an email 3 hours before my final and got a reply like 20 minutes later. Good luck, i know you might have to take him since only one lecture is offeres but JUST BE PREPARED.....READ......TA.....TUTOR......don't procrastinate!!!
