JPN 2 was overall a very enjoyable experience. We met 3 times per week for about an hour, and Professor Taylor taught on Tuesdays while the TA taught us on Thursdays and Fridays. Most of what we did in class was dialogue practice (listening/speaking/reading aloud), while the kanji and vocab were expected to be self-taught, which I didn't mind as we had limited class time to learn what is a very difficult language for native English speakers. The professor also expects that we bring our Tobira textbooks in every day so don't forget that, as you'll need it to follow along.

Your grade will be a mix of the 7-8 vocab/kanji quizzes that you will take throughout the quarter, the handwritten homeworks (no tablets), the oral exams (there are 2, typically weeks 4 and 9) and the midterm and final. Attendance is also graded and they will take note if you are a few minutes late. I would say the most difficult part of the class is the oral exams, so be prepared to spend a couple hours practicing for these. Office hours are also a great resource to use if you want real time feedback from the professor.

Overall, Professor Taylor was a great teacher, and I really feel like my comprehension of Japanese has improved from her guidance.
