Given COVID and the department's policies, Prof Takatsuka was as accommodating as she could be. She was very approachable and super nice. Her lectures were just her reading off the slides, but I really like how she added slides to apply what she was teaching to our economy during the time of COVID. That actually really helped me understand the material better.

I'd say the most helpful thing to do to study for the midterms and final is to READ THE TEXTBOOK. It's online and it was free (because of COVID I think) and do MindTap. Sometimes she pulls questions that are answered by the textbook verbatim, so it's important to read the textbook, which was pretty good at explaining concepts.

IDK whats up with those other reviews, this is the easiest econ upperdiv I have taken or ever will take. The material is like going back to Econ 1 concepts: eternalities and supply and demand. I didn't attend any lectures so I'm not sure if that detracted from other people's understanding, but the tests were straightforward material from the powerpoints she posted.

The midterm av was like a 90 and she even offered EC on the final, not sure why. I suggest everyone takes this course with her for a solid grade booster.

I really enjoyed this Econ elective with Yuki. She is truly the sweetest human being and really cares about her students. Whether is was a question asked in class or a random comment, she always has a smile on her face and was interested in engaging with her students. The class is fairly basic as well, consisting of tests and homework assignments. If you go to lecture or understand the slide material you will do just fine. If you do that and have an understanding of the book as well, you will pass this class with flying colors. 100% take this class if you need an econ elective!

Easiest Econ elective I will ever find at UCLA. All of the materials were very basic that were appropriately applied to real-life examples. She has plenty of firsthand experience in the topic she teaches so the application was convincing.
The exams were very straightforward. I was able to score 95%+ on the midterms just by going through the recorded lecture videos once.

It's not a hard class but given that the professor couldn't really teach the material, she made the class much harder than it's supposed to be. Halfway through the quarter, my friends and I realized going to the lecture is pointless as Yuki struggled to teach us a basic concept of the material itself. I'm sure she's a very nice person but that should not justify her lack of ability to teach. Furthermore, the grading seemed to be a bit off. On one of the midterms, she marked the whole class wrong for following exactly what she taught us.
If you're going to take this class, don't bother showing up to the lecture. Just download the slides so that you know what she talked about in class and read the textbook on those subjects. Good luck!

This class was great! I learned a lot about the environment and economics. I think it's important to consistently do well in every part of the class. My first midterm I was unfortunately confused and that resulted in me getting a B. However, if you keep up the good work then surely you will do wonderful. Professor is patient, helpful, and kind. She provided few practice questions and homework problems that may be challenging but important for understanding and good performance on the exams. Good luck!

Among many econ elective classes, this class would be easy and interesting class if you do your work. Professor Takatsuka gives sample questions and reviews before the exam, which will prepare you well for the exam. She also posts all lecture slides on the class website, which helps in case you have missed the class. Although she uploads all the materials on the website, I strongly recommend not to miss the class when the time is approaching to exams because she covers some important concepts that she would put on the test. I struggled a lot on the final exam because I missed out couple of classes before the final due to schedule conflicts, and apparently she covered some important concepts that she put on the final exam.

The class wasn't bad overall, but it was online because of COVID19 and there were a lot of technical issues. Aside from that, the grading scheme consists of only tests: 30% for each midterm and 40% for final, but she adjusted it into three different grading scheme because of blm, which I thought was accommodating since the department wouldn't allow finals to be cancelled. I thought the tests were pretty straightforward; they were nothing tricky so as long as you study enough you will be fine. There are no homework for the class, so some things I recommend doing are reading the textbook, going to lectures and taking lots of notes, going to discussions if your TA is helpful, and doing the mindtap problems. Also, go to office hours with questions, she's pretty helpful during OH. She even gave 2% extra credit if you do a mindtap assignment near the end of the quarter.
