I agree with the person who posted below me, the grading curve made absolutely no sense. According to the website, which automatically ranks you, I was 25th in the class (top 20%) and still got a B+.

His exams were ridiculously hard, but at least we had 6 cheat sheets. Most of the time I found myself copying equations and methods off of the sheets and hoping for partial credit.

Thank goodness he won't be teaching EE1 anymore, apparently the physics department is taking over the course. He was disorganized, unclear, and ineffective. Self-learning is the way to go for his classes.

Never Never take this jerk! I learned nothing from his lecture because he did not even know what he was talking about. He chose a very hard textbook without a published solution manual and he felt good about it. But people gathered and copied each other and still got perfect grades on homework. Well, the average was only 30% for both midterms and final, so why the fk did this happen...His grading was ridiculous as well: people who ranked 26th out of 131 students got a B+; while the one ranked 80th still got a B-, WTF??

Went to lecture for about half the course, then finally stopped because I didn't learn anything in them. He also posts the notes for these but they aren't very helpful either. The textbook sucked. The midterm and homeworks were usually fair and doable. However, his final killed. Talked to other people and apparently he didn't curve very well for this class. Would recommend finding another professor for this class.

I don't always check Bruinwalk reviews, but when I do, I should pay much more attention to them than I normally do.

As a Civil Engineering, I was offered the chance to take EE 1 or Physics 1C. I thought it would be better to take EE 1 because half of it was basically review and I didn't want to go to class 4 times a week for 1 hour each. I thought I would go on to do EE as my technical breadth requirement. Bad decision.

Class is half of electrical matters (fields, forces, capacitance, energy) and half magnetic matters. It is definitely more math based than 1B but that can sometimes be easier especially considering the directions and such. The first midterm was easy and had a 80% average so the professor compensated and gave a final with the average at 50%. Final was very hard and had a lot of foreign questions on it. Professor often just yelled at the students and he often tells us about how he himself didn't know this material when he learned it. He never showed up to his exams so it was pretty easy to bring more pages than specified to the tests or bring solutions manuals, etc. Umar Azad was a great TA, highly recommend seeing him if he's there.

As far as teaching goes, he's really bad and I hated the book. I actually bought a new practice guide to electromagnetics and did questions from that book to understand the concepts. I worked really hard for this class but pretty much on my own with no help at all from the professor.

The HW assignments were just copying off the solution manual and everyone probably got the 30% for it. The midterm was ok, people said it was hard but then I'm sure they didn't understand the material. I only went to lecture to hand in the homework and any problems I had, I just asked the TA. We were allowed 3 cheat sheets for the midterm and 6 for the final and I literally copied off the cheat sheet for 2 of the 5 final questions and 1 out of 3 for the midterm.

I would recommend this professor if you can learn it on your own because his final was really easy and the midterm was alright.

I had this professor for EE1. In summary, he simply cannot teach. Only 20% of the class came to lecture (if that). I sat in the front all quarter and I could not follow his lectures at all. No one has any idea what he is trying to explain or what is going on during lecture. Whenever he does sample problems/computations on the board, he ALWAYS makes mistakes. The class has to watch his every move to make sure he doesn't make a huge error on the board. This makes all of the computations done in lecture completely useless. In addition, the book is really really bad. Prof Wang even said during lecture that the textbook is awful. He assigns homework problems from the book but everyone has a solution manual, so everyone gets As on the homework assignments Definitely try to take EE1 with another professor if you can.

My TA, Ilkyu Kim, didn't speak the clearest English but his discussion sections were always worthwhile. He always went over all the topics covered in class very clearly and taught them well, and helped with the assigned homework problems. I was one of a handful of people (seriously, a max of 5 people came to discussion), which basically meant one-on-one help with the class.

Worst professor ever. Midterm was absolutely unfair and did not prepare us for it at all. We'll see how the rest of the class goes, but this guy can't teach for crap. And after the hard/unfair midterm, he comes to class the next day saying how simple it all was, just spiting us.
