Professor Xue was the only professor I went to OH for because he genuinely wants students to succeed and he's one of the only professors that actually tries to get to know you (he memorizes everyone's names). The workload of the class is pretty light and if you study the study guide he gives then you will be fine (he gives it a week in advance so you have time). Also, the study guide is longer than the actual exams so as long as you study that you'll be fine. All the info you need to do well in the class is in the handouts. The exams are short answers which I was initially scared for because I've never taken a blue book exam before but he's mainly just looking for keywords and even said bullet points are fine for some questions. I don't get why the other reviews are so harsh. Professor Xue doesn't try to trick you on exams and he repeats/stresses the important concepts a lot so you can guess what will be on the exam. Just because he has an accent doesn't mean he's a bad professor, you guys are just racist.
Dr. Xue is super kind and caring. He asked every students if they have any question and gave clear explanations whenever I had questions. There were one term paper, midterm, and final. The exams were straightfoward; however, it was mostly from the lectures, so have to attend the lectures.
This class SUCKS! Don't take it! Its not a lot of work but the professor makes it very difficult. He is really bad at expalining himself, and just rambles on and on about nothing. I took this class as an Environmental Science major thinking that I would learn something valuable for my major, I did not! A few weeks in I realized that the class was useless, but I figured I knew enough to do well. I was wrong. The tests are on completely random facts, and the essay/homework projects are terribly written.
Bad bad bad. Do not take.
He is very nice and helpful. Although his pronunciation is little bit hard to understand, he repeats himself a lot. Also read the textbook and try to write down what he says because they are on the tests. Papers are easy to write and he is easy grader.
I'm baffled by how many people call Prof Xue "great." He's really difficult to understand and most of the time it seems like HE doesn't understand what he's saying. Most of the time when I go to class I just get confused. But I'm getting an A- on all the assignments and tests just by studying the reader. I didn't even buy the book.
I wouldn't take a class with him again.
