Winter 2022 - I took this class as a GE and wasn't expecting much, but I ended up really enjoying this class and I actually felt like I had learned something. Prof. Yildiz is by far the nicest and most accommodating professor that I've ever had. Lectures are basically mandatory because there are 2 iClicker quizzes every class but Prof. Yildiz is very engaging and I really did enjoy coming to lecture. There are no essays due for this class, just a midterm and final, the aforementioned quizzes, and participation in discussion. She assigns a very fair amount of readings and the exams were also very fair. I would definitely recommend this class to anyone who has the opportunity to take it.

Fall 2020 - The class was pretty varied, ranging from founding European Union documents to discussions about German war/holocaust guilt to East vs West German identity stuff to Afro-German identities. Sometimes class discussions were a little boring, but on the whole I found the class interesting and the workload minimal (except for when we had to read a 210pg book in a week and half...). I didn't really like the essay topic but they were graded easily and so I was never really stressed by this class. Overall I'd recommend.

Fall 2020 - Really interesting class and Professor Yildiz was very good, especially at leading discussions and helping make connections between a lot of diverse materials (novels, films, poems, government documents). You need to be prepared for discussion and participation really matters. Grade mostly based on papers and participation. One group presentation project.
