I took this class online. Most of the students (including me) had already taken AP Calc AB in high school and had most of the knowledge already. That being said, it was relatively easy for me as I knew most of the topics already. If you do not already have some experience with calculus, he may not be great for you. His teaching style is a little messy and random, but not awful. His lectures include a lot of examples, which worked well for my learning style. Tests are not bad plus we had 24 full hours because it was online. Overall, he was decent but not exceptional.

At first, this class began very disorganized and confusing. Lectures were jumbled and we were not on track as far as the syllabus said. As the quarter continued, did I really see the changes. The professor became very organized, he had time stamps on the side of his notes, clearly showing that we were both on track in terms of what was to be covered in the lecture, as well as made clear that he had gone through the material before hand.
Grading was fair. There was no curve, but as long as you did all the homework and did decent on exams, you would be fine. He takes criticism well and made it clear that any suggestions on improvement were welcome.

This quarter, the professor for this class was alright. Much of the material covered in this class I learned in AP Calc which was kind of helpful. He does record the lectures which was good. I hated the midterms, for the first midterm I got all questions correct except one of them and I ended up getting a B on it. For most of the quarter he did offer extra credit, but stopped towards the end of the quarter. The $125 textbook is too overpriced :/ The very last day of the quarter he said he would curve the final grade to a B no matter how people did on the final, but then he sent an email saying he wasn't going to do that anymore, lame.

Professor Wumaier is incredibly helpful and kind. Having taken single variable calculus in high school, his class offered me a good refreshment of what I might have forgotten. The exams are fairly graded and you will do well as long as you understand all the concepts and do the homework practice.

The class was well organized and the professor always worked according to the syllabus. The midterms were fairly easy (watch out for specific questions in midterm 2). There are several opportunities for extra credit so make sure you attend the lectures to stay on track with that. Finals covered all the tough topics but there was enough time to ace it. DO TAKE HIS CLASS FOR AN EASY A.

this professor is honestly the best guy i've ever seen. he gives so many opportunities for extra credit- land up at his office hours, solve a question and BAM! u get extra credit. his tests are super fair and I found it really really easy to do (I have a history of doing math till multivariable calc in HS so i might be biased by saying this) but i haven't seen a single student hate on him for his tests so there you go. he is super helpful and super responsive to emails and questions you might have. the TAs are super smart guys as well and they also have office hours to go and clear doubts. the only drawback of this class is that he required us to get a 125$ textbook just to get a code to access online hw. I havent used the textbook ONCE and i dont have 125$ to throw for nothing. other than this, his class is an easy A with little to average amounts of work. I feel so happy for having taken his class and would definitely go back again. If you are new to this class, as you might be, read up on a few topics before entering the class so its an easy breeze for you, if not then dont worry, its still very learnable with him. thanks mr. maimaitiyiming <3 (short guy with a long name, jk)

TLDR: If you don't have calculus background, take Math 31AL instead.

I apologize if this is long.

The class material itself will not be as complicated BUT ONLY IF you have taken calculus before (Pre-calc, Algebra 2, AP Calc AB). However, this professor is really passive aggressive, fast-paced for who knows what reason, and did not want to help me because "the TA's know." During the first few lectures, it seems as if things will go well. Quizzes look like examples from class and discussion worksheets. They took place in discussion sections and if I had studied better, I would have done better. THE TEXTBOOK IS ALWAYS HELPFUL. I found myself understanding the textbook more than his lectures because I was reading at my own pace. He allowed an index card of notes for the midterms and one side of a sheet of paper for notes for the final.

But the exams.... what was even going on.... Some problems made no sense, but this may be my own fault for not being able to interpret them correctly.
I hated the exams because I was always stressing about how to word my answers and how to properly show my work. He wanted specific ways to show that you really got the answer. It was annoying.

When I went to office hours, a week before finals, I wanted to ask for help while he was talking to a student who was also in the same class. I had asked a question regarding homework and studying, but he told me that the TA knows. Yes, they know but I would not be at office hours if I did not try contacting them. My TA was one of the worst. He did nothing but be on his phone during discussion after passing the discussion worksheet.

This class was one of my first classes as a freshman and I hated how bad I did. I RECOMMEND MATH 31AL INSTEAD. It is the same class but with more discussion sections. It is better equipped and suitable for someone without calculus background.

Besides being an 8am, this class was not too bad. Having some prior knowledge of calc (AB or BC) definitely does help but is not needed. Prof Wumaier did a really good job of teaching the materials and it definitely connected to the homework. Both the midterms were almost identical to the practice midterms he gave out prior, so make sure to do those. The discussion sections are optional (and they did not help me too much) but quizzes do get handed out in discussion so make sure you know when the quiz dates are. His office hours were helpful to an extent. But overall, this class is a good place to start for math.

I took calculus in highschool two years before taking this class so I was familiar but rusty with the material. If you're completely new to calculus, this class can seem very difficult. The professor is fine but he moves fast. Lectures are a must; he generally teaches pretty well. Class was made up of weekly homework, discussion quizzes, midterms, and a final. Homework was kind of annoying because he'd had everything due on Friday night and sometimes wouldn't teach the necessary content until the lecture on Friday morning. I had a great TA who taught during the discussion so I did well on all the discussion quizzes. The quizzes and midterms were easy to moderate in difficulty. The final was moderate to hard. I missed points on the final because I didn't know the proof to Riemann's Sums so make sure to study everything, even the stuff you don't think you need to know. Overall, class was okay.
