He is a nice guy. Very organized lectures, would help if he used slides or something. It would be a lot easier to write down what he is trying to say. The good thing is, he really knows his materials. The tests aren't hard, just ID and a 2 essay questions. But on the essay questions, you really gotta know what they're looking for, As for the paper, its nothing special. Typical 5-6 page paper. Its cake compare to those other research papers. Most important thing you need to know is go to class/sections and take good notes, and be aware of the vocabs/ppl's name/dates/etc he writes on the board, because those are usually the ones he uses for the ID part of the test.

Professor Nehring is wonderful! He is one of the kindest professors I have ever met. I loved coming to class and listening to his slow, thickly accented voice. He would often crack little jokes and stand up there chuckling at himself.

His lectures are well organized. Sometimes, you miss a couple things he says because of his accent, but it was not at all a big problem. He knows he has an accent, so he makes sure to speak slowly and as clearly as possible.

The class is really interesting, too. I HATE history classes with a passion, but I loved this class. It's a great mixture of art, literature, culture, and history. We had a midterm and a final that both consisted of paragraph or so definitions of 10 to 12 dates/names/places/etc (he clearly gives you all the possible ID's during lecture that might show up on the tests), and then two essays, one historical and one focusing on artwork or literature of some kind. We had one 5 to 6 page paper, but you're totally prepared to write on any of the topics based on the info he gives you in lecture.

Taking this class, and having Professor Nehring, has inspired me to take German in the fall so that I can visit the country and just learn more about German culture in general. Definitely take him and/or this class if you're able to!
