Literally the easiest class you can possibly take.

This is the easiest class I've taken. I think it was designed to be online which is why it worked so well during COVID. Everything is pre-recorded so you can go at your own pace. You do have to complete the readings and attend discussions (which was the biggest pain) but other than that it was great.

Great class. I hadn't taken any history classes at UCLA, so it introduced me to academic history writing. My TA was strict, but that helped me improve.

Professor Worger is such a passionate and charming professor who clearly has immense knowledge about Africa and its history. He presents the information through short presentations, and uses the analysis of primary and secondary sources as his main tools for helping students understand the themes covered in the lectures. Given that African history is broad and impossible to cover in its entirety in the duration of 10 weeks, I am impressed by how much I was able to learn during the course of 10 weeks. Not only have I learned a lot about the beginnings of African civilizations, their culture, language and tradition, but also a lot of interesting facts surrounding Africa that may not have been related directly to the course. I highly recommend taking this class as it is both easy and incredibly interesting.

TL/DR: As others said, this class is appallingly easy. The lectures are all recorded, you don't need to read absolutely everything, and the assignments are pretty quick. Overall, this was an extremely easy GE. Compared to other online/asycnh classes, the workload was not bad at all. I was able to do all the readings, lectures, and the weekly quiz all in one day. I was bascially free for the rest of the week. The assigments and grade breakdown is very easy. I am selling the required textbook. Text me at **********!

Easiest GE I've ever taken at UCLA. Workload was totally manageable, and the TAs were super understanding. There is one long paper you have to write - the rest of the assignments are relatively short and simple. Weekly quizzes are straightforward and can be found in the lectures.

Incredibly easy class. Many readings were available online; we also read two memoirs by African writers. I recommend doing the reading so you can participate in discussion, as your TA's opinion of how engaged you are can definitely impact your grade. The lectures were somewhat interesting, but the info on them was only really used for weekly online quizzes which we got two attempts at. All four written assignments (basically all short) were based on the readings or online research.

The lectures are interesting, but most assignments are based on readings or online research, so the lectures are not crucial. They're only needed for weekly quizzes, where you get two attempts.

Definitely take this class! The workload was very manageable and very well organized. Some of the assignments were peculiar but the rubric is posted so you know exactly what to produce.
