"I looooooovvveee Zame!"

If you hear anyone utter those words and he is referring to a man who chatters about Piere Marcolini designer chocolate, AVATAR, and Robinson Crusoe, then slap that person in the face and knock some sense into him. Because, let me tell you what, you won't be getting much sense from this professor anyway.

He has this sweet, methodical voice that just begs "Oh, my pretties, go, gooooo to sleep. Divert your attention away from my lecture and stare off into the other sides of the lecture hall." (One time I fell asleep in class and was re-jolted back to consciousness after seeing Zame cackling in a black and red cape as smoke ascended around his balding head).

And under that sweet, methodical voice/facade is a sinister man who doesn't give a shit about his students and their understanding of the material.

So, yes, the rumors are true:

*He does not curve his tests. Even when the average is in the 60s. Even when the TAs all recommend that he should. And even when certain members of the Econ department call his refusal to curve "crazy."

*His homework assignments can be as long as a jail sentence. But at least in jail we don't have to do the Lagrangian method and freakin' meticulous algebra 50 times.

*He does yell at his students (not during lecture, mind you). But if you ask him what he thinks might be a question with an obvious answer, he might start flailing his sweatered stubs of arms at you. No joke, it happened to my friend.

At least, like a previous post states, I can leave with a sense of that warm comradery with my peers that only a terrible professor like Zame can instill in our hearts.

I may sound like one of those guys who just goes on BruinWalk to vent on ALL of his teachers, but, to this date, I have never given a teacher a bad review...especially not like this.

Bottom line: Zame is lame.

He won't curve, and he won't listen to the TAs either when they showed him the distribution scores for the midterm. Is there ANYTHING we can do to prevent us all from failing? This is the worst professor I've ever had, he has pretty much prevented everybody from getting into their majors since Econ 11 is so heavily weighted in the primary score.

NEVER UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE TAKE ECON 11 WITH ZAME. If you have to wait a quarter a be behind, do it, it will be worth it to save the misery this class and he will cause you.

His lectures are useless (all over the place, hard to follow, shitty slides). The book, if possible, is worse. His homeworks take an inordinate amount of time. And his exams are ridiculous. The average on the midterm was a 65% AND HE REFUSES TO CURVE.

Spare yourself, I wish I had known.

Zame is the worst professor of all time, in any subject. No debating that fact. If you decide to take his class, prepare to hate every minute you spend listening to him ramble about chocolate, widgets, and his Romanian girlfriend (not to mention the many, MANY minutes you'll spend doing his ridiculous homework). I guess on the plus side, its so bad that by the end of the quarter you'll feel a special bond with everyone else who suffered through the class with you. Unless you're looking for that, though, just wait a quarter for a different teacher. Really.

This class is ridiculous with this professor. Class does not help at all. He'll start lecturing you on something easy, but then give you a 5 hour homework assignment that is apparantly "application" of the material.

Midterm tested a lot of stuff that was covered in the "non-madatory" homework assignment.

I saw all the bad reviews and decided to just go ahead and take it, thinking I could declare business econ by my Junior year. With the grades I'm getting in this class, there's no way that's happening.

Never have gotten a C before at UCLA till now.

Although he may not be the worst lecturer/professor, he's definitely not that great. I would definitely take mcdevitt instead of him.

the homework problems and the midterm was all pretty straightforward, until you hit the final.

Although he said he wouldn't curve, he had to in the end because everyone did so badly on the final (which was hard compared to everything else)

He does spend a lot of time correcting himself, so it may get frustrating at times.

You teach yourself economics in this class. I went to office hours every week, and my TA helped out a lot. I guess I learned the material in the end, but it didn't have much to do with him teaching it. But the fact that I learned it all puts him one up on a lot of profs. Probably not the worst econ. 11 professor out there, but hopefully not the best.

Zame is a horrible lecturer. Many of his lecture notes are unorganized and random. At the start of each class, he goes over what he screwed up in the previous class. Do not take this professor. Take McDevitt instead. The worst thing about Zame's class is that he has no curve... this is the only econ class I've ever heard of without a curve. Stay away from Zame.
