Taking this math series instead of the normal one was probably the best decision I've made so far at UCLA. I seriously loved this class(30B was even better) and Professor Conley was great. The coding isn't terrible, just go to office hours if you need help, and the tests were easy. My biggest piece of advice for this class is to go to the review sessions he puts on before every test. Be warned: they are SUPER long, but so worth it. He lays everything out at the review session and basically tells you the stuff that's on the test. Professor Conley does go a little fast in lecture but he really does try to explain things throughly and doesn't go over the stuff you don't need. Seriously though, take this math series it's shorter, you don't learn dumb math you will never use as an LS type major and getting familiar with coding is really good for future labs and stuff.
Although there are many positive reviews, I did not like this class. He is a great lecturer and holds review sessions before each midterm and final. However, his exams are extremely tough. I did not perform well in any of his exams even though I studied hard for them.
Conley is such a good professor! Math is not my best subject and I already had a negative attitude going in to this class, but Professor Conley made the subject much more interesting. He is a very good teacher who takes lots of time to clarify topics, and he even goes out of his way to help students out by holding long review sessions during his own free time. Although he is very good at teaching complicated topics, his tests are still pretty difficult. As long as you pay attention in class, go to all the review sessions, and complete ALL of his exam study guides, you do relatively well in the class.
Conley is amazing, this class s very insightful and doable, and you will definitely walk out with a good grade if you put in the reasonable amount of effort they ask for. Conley also was so accommodating and helpful given the remote learning, and he is also just a really nice person. Definitely recommend the class!
Professor Conley is THE BEST professor ever! He is very helpful and provides many sources for his students to get help. It does not surprise me that he has won teacher of the year many times! Every lecture begins with a brief review of the last lecture and always asks the students if they understand it. He holds review sessions for midterms and final that last from 3 - 5 hours, which would conceivably go on for longer if students had questions. Besides his amazing teaching abilities, Conley actually makes calculus fun! He would use visual representations to show what was going on and explained everything thoroughly. I highly recommend this class!! With that being said, his tests are pretty tough. Make sure to do all study guides! I would recommend watching Youtube videos for help, especially once you get to related rates.
Professor Conley is AWESOME. He's probably the best math professor that I've ever had. He really cares about his students and will devote as much time as needed to help his students understand the material. He once stayed after office hours until like 6:30pm with me to make sure I understood a difficult topic. His lectures are super thorough and very easy to follow. Even though many in the class have done calculus before, Conley starts from the beginning to make sure that everyone has a solid foundation. Having said that though, his tests were pretty hard- especially his final.
Will Conley is the most beautiful soul I have ever met and we do not deserve him. He is probably the best math professor I will ever have in my entire life and there are so many great things to say about him. He teaches calculus in a way that even though I took BC in high school, I still was engaged in lectures. His midterms were pretty easy, his final was a little tougher but definitely still manageable. Honestly I missed more points on homework than I ever missed on tests. The class covers derivatives and integration of basic functions (no ln or e), related rates, position/velocity/acceleration, linear approximation, Riemann sums, limits, and optimization-- which you probably did not cover in high school and most people struggled to understand. Overall I really enjoyed this class and Conley. He makes lecture fun from his obsession with Michelle Obama to his Teva sandals to him making little math jokes only he gets. Take him if you get the chance.
Professor Conley is the best math professor that I've ever had in my entire life. He assures that all of his students understand what is going on during lectures, and he always makes additional efforts to provide office hours/external help for the ones who may be a little behind. His review sessions before the exams are super helpful, and the exams are fair (although the final requires a bit of extra thinking). Please sign up to take this class with him. You will be thankful to have such a dedicated and caring teacher by your side.
Conley is amazing!! I am currently taking him for 31B and honestly he is so clear and insanely helpful. He will literally stay hours during midterm reviews and over time in office hours to help any student with the subject. Even if it means you have to take math another day since this was a lab you will not regret. He's the best professor you will have!
Professor Conley gave clear explanations of concepts and provided ample examples during class time. He was eager to help students with specific questions and his study sessions before the final and midterms were excellent, albeit lengthy, reviews that covered all necessary topics.
