This prof is awesome. Very clear lectures that follow directly from the lecture notes. Every topic has a few examples. The discussions meet twice a week and are "mandatory" but in actuality, only the worksheet is mandatory. It can be found online and is graded on completion as far as I can tell. However, anytime I could I went to the discussions as the TAs would walk you through all the problems. 115A is a difficult class, however, not with Yeong. I found the tests to be very easy if you understand the homework and worksheet problems. Note cards are allowed for midterms, and a page is allowed for the final. 10/10 would recommend.
I think Professor Yeong has gotten much better since last Fall. Her grading was fair and although she mostly just teaches straight from the textbook, the homework and worksheets she provides helps a lot with studying for tests. Lowkey the first midterm was kinda hard. The content wasn't bad but there were 8 questions for only 50 minutes (however they were pretty lenient with partial credit). Second midterm wasn't bad at all and neither was the final. You might need to teach some of the content to yourself because she's not always the best lecturer but it was manageable. Overall would recommend this class with her.
Wern is getting way over-hated here. She is a super nice woman and I think her lecturing has improved a ton since she started and I'm sure she will continue to get better. She helped me in my hour of need when everyone else abandoned me. I love Wern.
This class is definitely the hardest math class I've taken thus far. That has less to do with the Professor Yeong and more to do with the subject itself, so be fair in your expectations for how easy this class is. Professor Yeong is an average lecturer but her office hours are very helpful, so please attend those often. There are two midterms and one final. The first midterm was incredibly hard to me but the second one was very manageable. The final was cumulative and quite fair. Each homework assignment consists of 10 questions and there are around 8 assignments in the quarter. Regarding the first few weeks of class, make sure to learn triple integrals in spherical, cylindrical, and cartesian coordinates as well as possible. It takes a lot of practice and not knowing them well will make the first midterm much harder.
ngl she was my math queen this quarter i really enjoyed her class but maybe that was just me appreciating a prof that was not ebert... n e way but yeah i really liked this class and i think she did better spring than fall bc my friends that had her winter did not like her. her lecture material i thought was good however there were times where she assigned homework that was not covered in class which i thought was kinda annoying but the thought process behind doing it made sense. i would say she does a good job of teaching most things, there is just some stuff you have to teach yourself bc she just won't go over it at all in class. i pulled multiple all nighters for this class also but you 100% dont need to, just dont procrastinate on the homework like i did. also, DO THE PRACTICE PROBLEMS SHE GIVES ON THE LECTURE NOTES THEY ARE THE MOST HELPFUL THING EVER. also, do the practice tests she gives too bc those are really good practice.
The old reviews make her seem way worse than she actually is. I was initially terrified to take this class, but I ended up getting an A through self studying most of it. As a professor, she's not the best, but there are so many external sources that you can use to learn concepts that are difficult to grasp. Her midterms are definitely fair, just time crunches. With practice, you will breeze through them. Most people complaining are doing so probably because the class itself is difficult. Make sure you solidify every concept and you will be fine. Also, the first half of the class is way harder than the second, so if you do poorly on the first midterm, don't freak out.
I found this class to be very challenging but the past reviews are extremely harsh. It's clear Wern tries her best to make the content understandable, which is difficult considering how this is the hardest lower div math course. She was very understanding about our concerns with the final and ended up curving it pretty generously. I got a C on both midterms and still ended with an A- in the class. The tests can be challenging but they're around the same difficulty as the homework problems. The weekly discussion worksheets were graded by completion and there's 10 HW problems each week, which can take a while to complete but will ultimately help a lot with the exams. I would say to not be deterred from taking her class by past reviews. I was scared too when I first started but after taking the class, I found it really wasn't too bad, especially considering how my math wasn't as strong as a lot of others in the class.
