Dr. Edgerton is the most amazing professor I have ever taken at UCLA. Here are the reasons why:
1- His research is OUTSTANDING. And I mean, INCREDIBLE. If you like research, you HAVE TO TAKE THIS CLASS. Not only does he teach about his life's research, but how to THINK critically and scientifically.
2- He lectures clearly and all of this information flows logically. He asks thoughtful questions to the class and never judges your answers. He is truly outstanding.
3-His tests are take-home. Which makes the class much more do-able.
4-He is easy to talk to and laid back, which makes understanding the material much more easy.
5-The material he lectures on is SO RELEVANT. Like working out? Take this class. Like body building? Take this class. Want to know how we recruit motor units to move various objects? Take this class. Don't know anything about science? Take this class. Like running marathons? Take this class. Ever wondered how spinal cord injury affects us? Take this class. Are you a UCLA student? Take this class....
You get it. Take the class. He will change your life.
This elective class was very laid back and relaxed compared to the other physci classes I've taken. Edgerton is all about the thinking process and not pure memorization. The midterm was a take-home one (2 essays). The assignments were research proposals that required a lot of thinking and research, which he helped you with. The only issue is that he is so busy that he doesn't have as much time for the students as I've been used to. You have to catch him RIGHT after class or else, good luck. He missed several classes to travel on behalf of his research as well. The final exam was taken at home and open note, but because it was essay-style, graded harshly. Overall, the material of the class was interesting but the way his slides were presented were often confusing. The testing methods really allowed me to barely study and in turn, I don't think I learned as much as I could have in this class.I got an A- since I worked hard on the exams and assignments, but I still think the class is very poorly organized.
