This class was a pretty easy A as long as you are okay with writing a few papers. I didn't go to or understand any of the lectures because that barely counted towards participation and there were no tests so if I needed to I just looked back on slides for info for the papers. I just went to discussion and asked TA lots of questions about papers and they really help. If you are worried about the long lectures, don't be you can leave if you want or just not go, and the class grade is only really just the three papers which can be easily researched and are more to do with social media than anything in lecture. I would take again, especially as a busy pre-med student athlete this class was fine.
The class consisted of three unit papers, one final, and 6 discussion posts. you have opportunities for extra credit at the end of the quarter which was great. highly recommend talking to your TA because they can be so helpful. talking and engaging during your discussion section matters and you typically go over the readings and topics talked about in lectures.
the professor at times could be a little boring, but still very clear and gives good information that you can use in your papers. I didn’t care for the way she capped the grades at a 95 so it was impossible to get higher than that, but the extra credit helps. Im not complaining since the class was a breeze. I would take again because it was cool to learn about digital media. I also would leave class early before she starts a screening because more than half the films we watched in class were online or posted on bruinlearn.
I think Professor Paredes has many strengths as a lecturer. There is something planned for every moment, and you can tell they take care when making their slideshows and preparing for the class. I think the class has a good infrastructure, and I am always a fan of no midterm. I did get bored sometimes, but I have the memory and attention span of a goldfish at times. Overall, I'm very glad I took this class.
