she is a horrible professor. her notes come right from the book, but her rearrangement doesnt make any sense, she cant answer questions that arent directly from her notes, and she gave a rediculously hard final for a class that isnt curved. i feel like she tries to care about students learning, but she cant get over the language barrier and disorganization to help out. dont take her class if you want to learn from her, but if u want a pretty easy econ class (minus the final) go ahead.
This course was horrible. She uses a poor Econ book and insists on taking the slides that she uses for class exactly from the book. But instead of teaching the slides and examples from them, she simply reads the slides exactly word for word. She is nice and funny, sometimes, but she is a poor teacher. Find a different teacher for this class!
Okay I don't know what the past few reviews were talking about because Skreta was anything but a good professor. This class was a waste of time and I ended up teaching myself the entire material. 3/4 of the material never even showed up on tests anyways. Her lectures were a joke in that she literally copied and pasted the words verbatim from the textbook. TA sessions weren't that great either. the answer keys had so many errors in them and all the steps were never shown. For Econ 11, tested material weighs heavily on problems, something the textbook lacks. So you're left to rely on the problem sets assigned, which doesn't leave you much practice. I do give her credit for being rather straightforward on her quizzes and as far as the easy midterm goes, don't expect her to pull another stunt like that again. The final was more challenging and the point distribution kinda screwed you over if you messed up on one question or part or you were stuck on one part. Considering that all of us knew nothing more than the problem sets assigned, the final required a bit more knowledge that the average student probably knew. Plus the final was weighted 50%. All in all, be prepared to learn everything on your own. I definitely felt I learned nothing of worth in this class and went through unnecessary stress and frustration trying to figure out how to do the problems. Don't believe Skreta is easy just because the first 50% of her grading was. She's very subject to changing the format of the class grades wise.
She is very scatterbrained, but really nice and funny. The class is really EASY. Everything you need to know is in the lectures, so don't bother buying the book. There was one midterm (30%) and a final (50%). she gave us 3 quizzes, 15 mins long, thoughout the quarter and the highest one counts for 20% of your grade. Her midterm was identical to the midterm review, but the final was a lot harder. My advice is to make sure you do the problem sets weekly, kno wthe lectures posted online, and memorize the practice tests! She is really easy, but there is no curve.
Although her lectures were either really confusing, really dull, or both, this class wasn't as hard as I expected. Discussions were super helpful because you definitely have to know the math. One thing I really liked were that tests and quizzes were very straightforward and fair. She seems like a nice person, very econ-nerd; she's always trying to make jokes in class that would be funny if she knew how to tell jokes. From what I've heard from friends, she is a lot better than the other Econ 11 teachers out there, so I'd recommend taking her.
