Kane has to be my favorite professor at UCLA! She is super understanding and truly cares about her students. She made the class enjoyable and was super approachable. Her tests are also fair and consisted of T/F, multiple choice, and short answers. There was also plenty of time to complete the exam. I hope I get the chance to take another class with her before I graduate, but they fill up quick because she really is one of the best professors here at UCLA.

I think this is my favorite EEB class I've taken at UCLA so far. Dr. Kane was very helpful and nice and this class was very good in terms of having clear expectations. Not an easy class, but definitely reasonable, enjoyable, and interesting. Would definitely recommend it. Also offered some EC!

Dr. Kane is an amazing, approachable, and kind professor. She is engaging and cares about her students' well-being, in addition to their success. I made super-comprehensive study guides to ace this class (A+). It was kind of tedious going through and answering all her study questions but it was useful, and I still have my notes from it that worked out well for me! I can spare you the hassle by sharing my guides.

My friends have all used them to do well in her class too, and I've been asked to sell them a lot, so if you're interested in it, just text or email me at ************* for the midterm and final study guides! They are consistent with all of the 2019 and 2020 course materials. $15 for everything that helped me get an A+ :)

Easy class overall, though exams are graded a bit harshly to make up for it. Exams are based purely on lecture and slides. Dr. Kane clearly cares a lot about both the topic and the well being of her students, which made it a very enjoyable class!

Professor Kane was super nice! As someone who was already interested in marine science she just made me more passionate about it. Her lectures are interesting in my opinion, and are podcasted, so you don't have to go to lectures if you don't want to. The two midterms and final were multiple choice, T/F, and some short answer, but for the most part thought it was super fair. Would totally take the class again! She is super passionate about the subject, which just makes getting the material from her that much better.

EEB 109 is a really fun and easy class! Dr.Kane changed the exam format to in-person without any cheat sheets but exams were very manageable and knowing the learning objectives for each unit is important. Grades were based on the amount of points you earned compared to the total points in the class. Weekly assignments were pre-lecture reading questions, pre-discussion questions, post-discussion questions, and end-of-the-week quizzes all on Canvas and mostly multiple choice with some short answers. You get multiple attempts on the pre-lecture reading questions but the rest is only one attempt and most of them are not timed either. They could all be found in the textbook by skimming or in the slide decks. Discussions weren't mandatory but helpful in answering the post-discussion questions since your TA gave you the answers and what they were expecting. Exams were very fair and mostly multiple choice. The short-answer parts were a bit difficult since they were picky about specific details and what you explained. The final was only multiple choice questions and very manageable as well.

Dr.Kane is an amazing lecturer who really cares about the subjects! Her lectures are clear and she outlines what she wants us to know in her learning objectives which kinda act as a study guide! You should be okay just reading from the slides though but it might be helpful to hear her interpretation of the graphs. Overall would recommend Dr.Kane! It was quite a stressfree, easy, and interesting upper div EEB course! I really love marine bio now thanks to her : )

Highly recommend taking this class with Dr. Kane! It was a lot more interesting than I thought it was going to be. Had about two modules a week (summer class) with each module having around 2-4 lectures. Had easy module quizzes that you had a week to complete. Midterm and final were mix of multiple choice and short answer; everything came from the lectures, didn't need the textbook. For discussion sections, we read a paper each week, answered some questions about it, and then discussed it during section. Definitely one of my more favorite classes and professor!!

Really fun, doable class that dives (haha) into conservation, marine life, chemical cycles, physical cycles!

This class consisted of 1-2 weekly multiple choice "quizzes" or homework assignments that assessed basic knowledge from lecture recordings, other videos, and the assigned readings. They're super doable, and you can use your notes to help you! We also had 2 midterms and a final, and all were very very fair exams.

Overall, really straightforward and enjoyable class!

Professor Kane was the most absolute sweetheart. I would retake this class if I could. The work was clear and very manageable. I took this class over the summer during the 6-week session and it went by extremely fast which was awesome. I never had a true interest in the marine side of ecology but after this class, I might not be so sure anymore. The class was structure to a method I really enjoy learning, so maybe that is why I also enjoyed the class. You had modules due every week ranging from 2-4 that had quizzes to go with them. There was a midterm during week 4 (no work that week) and then of course the Final Exam. The exams were very reasonable and very straightforward. I loved her exams for that reason since she wasn't trying to trick you on any of the questions. It was just a matter of looking through your notes and matching the best answer. The discussion portion was not bad either, I did like the lecture just a bit more though. Oh, also the quizzes you took could be opened for days as they were not timed and due on a specific day. So you had plenty of time to construct and find answers.

Really fun and interesting. Kanes classes are all relatively similar to one another. If youve taken a class with her, its pretty much similarly structured.

Concepts covered are interesting, exams are extremely straightforward so long as you paid attention in lecture and reviewed slides, and overall, not too bad.
