I don't know where to begin with Dr.Barber, but I guess the word I would describe her is motivational. Dr.Barber cares about her students and is knowledgeable about her craft. Honestly, this would be the only class at UCLA that I actually wanted to attend every lecture. She makes the material digestible, she's encouraging and does NOT belittle her students if there responses are not correct or "over reaching". I'm so happy that her course was my last art history at the university. She's fun, funny, animated, smart, AND a snazzy dresser!
I highly recommend Dr.Barber, you won't regret it!
this class was honestly one of the most interesting ones I've taken my entire time at UCLA. barber is knowledgeable and her lectures/discussions are always thought-provoking. she's the type to really push her students to fully engage with the art/readings and create research that pushes your understanding of Black art forward. she isn't the easiest grader, you'll definitely need to spend some time adjusting to her style. but she gives students the ability to resubmit essays after providing edits in class on your first drafts. the final was a video essay that was basically a comprehensive research paper on a topic we found interesting related to the course materials.
