Prof. Richthammer is one of the best professors at UCLA. Period. He's one of the most organized and nicest people I have ever seen. His lecture notes are clear and contain everything you need to know to get a good grade in the class. Thus, attending lecture is a must. That being said, that does not mean he is an easy professor. His homework does take a very long time so waiting until the last minute is not a good idea. The tests are also not easy and sometimes very long. However, he is willing to do everything to help his students- he does three review sessions a quarter- one before each midterm and before the final.

Professor Richthammer is a really good professor. He really understands what he's lecturing, and does a good job balancing theory with examples. For lower-division classes, I could imagine him putting in more theory than is necessary, but once you hit upper-division classes, you should expect to get theory no matter what. His homework and tests are difficult, but he is a very generous grader. I struggled through the class, and still managed a B-, which I personally thought was higher than I should have received. He is also extremely approachable, encourages you to ask questions, and can be reached at office hours or via email very easily. Overall, he's a good teacher that will push you to understand the material, while not grading too harshly at the same time. Highly recommended.

He is an outstanding professor. Probably there will be bunch professors at UCLA that are, of course, very smart but not all of them might be very good in teaching. Professor Richthammer is a very reasonable, helpful and yet an engaging teacher that encourages students to study harder and harder by giving a somewhat challenging homework and midterms. If you can do all the homework problems by yourself, with only a very little help from TA or professor, than you will totally be fine. Even though his class is not easy, but you will really "learn" and gain knowledge and therefore it is worth. His super organized lecture notes and homework problems provide students a better direction what to study. His grading style is also considerable since he will value what you know by certain extent when giving partial credits. In addition, of course the TA also plays a great role. Nikki Meshkat has been very helpful and I recommend people to have this TA for any other Math classes.

UCLA Math Department should probably consider to have him again in the next academic year. So far, he is the best Math professor at UCLA.
