HORRIBLE teacher!!!! His grading was biased in terms of writing style, not the content. I took a Travel Study course in Global Studies. All he graded was on if he liked the style of writing. Plus, his class structure and material was unorganized. He rarely covered the issues of Shanghai and Globalization but rather what he was interested in, and didn't even really teach. He more like lectured but that didnt mean i learned anything from hiim. I learned more from the books and the students, than from all his lectures combined! I learned NOTHING about Global Studies from him. Amazingly, the students seemed to know even more than him on the topic. His grading is also real harsh! He rarely gives out A's and is unfair about grading. My final project was "one of the better papers" as quoted by him. But, he ended up giving a B on it. I guess his good papers are always given B's. I would NOT recommend him at all.

Prof Huters wasn't that hard... he is a pretty chill guy... the problem was that sometimes he was a little too chill and so it seemed like classes were very disorganized. He wanted us to be prepared for class but the problem was we never knew what we would be doing in lecture because he never told us beforehand. Sometimes we read the text, sometimes it was the movie, sometimes it was doing translations. He didn't really communicate with the TAs so they didn't really know what to tell us and the TAs often didn't even know if we had an essay and what that topic was. Even if they did know the topic he did not provide instructions so everything was pretty vague. He would tell people in one class something and then not tell the other class so we had to piece everything together in discussions... his tests mostly consist of incredibly long translations that aren't hard but are time consuming... i might also mention that he can also come off being slightly condesending at first... but all in all, it wasn't too bad of a class... at first i was a little bothered by the fact that there didn't seem to be much structure to the class but i got used to it and it wasn't so bad...

I took Chinese 151 (Translation - Modern Chinese Literature) with Prof. Huters. I give him mixed reviews: Class: The whole class is graded on 3 take-home essays on the books that we read. Lectures: Honestly, lectures aren't that much of a help. Prof. Huters talks about relevant material to the book, but sometimes he talks too much about the book. Grading: Prof. Huters expects a college-standard papers, with a well-thought out thesis and topic sentence and stuff like that. I think if you pour a fair amount time into the essay, the grading should be pretty fair. But I think a lot of the lectures didn't really help me in my essay. Overall: Prof. Huters really knows his stuff, but I think he needs to cut down on the stuff he lectures about.

Lectures weren't bad at all, I feel like I did learn something valuable from this class. His grading wasn't too harsh either. The books he assigns for reading are informative and definitely fits well into the scope of this course. Further, Professor Huters always welcomed students in seeking his help if we ever needed it.
