I didn't do so well in the class, maybe because I was busy sleeping - but come on, he has monotonous slides and he's also monotone. But, hes really nice and if you need help its probably better to go to his office hours then to go to discussion. He's cool, you could get an A if you memorize all the theories - the end.
This class was a breeze. I went only once and still got an A in the class (thanks to his policy of putting all the lecture notes on the internet.) Get to know your T.A.'s, because they are the ones that grade your mid-term and final, which account for your entire grade. But if you know the lecture notes from the internet well you'll get a good grade. Easy G.E. satisfier.
Professor Parsons is a friendly professor, and his knowledge of the subject is hardly in question. However, he comes from a 'logic' background and emphasizes the logical argument structure a little too much for a (phil of) religion class. I was left wondering what would be on the exams, and found myself a little more-than-miffed at having studied for much of the CONCEPTUAL material, when all that was on the exam was the 'logical' argument structure which had very little to do with the concepts learned in class. Perhaps some review tests, or something of that nature, would help eliminate some of the frustration. To his credit, this IS his first time teaching Philosophy of Religion (from my understanding), and hopefully these issues will be rectified. Also, he uses slides for class (which you can later download), which allows you to pay attention to his lecture and not have to worry so much about taking notes (or at least not prolific ones).
