Dr. Chichester is SUPER nice and approachable. She tries really hard to help everyone do well in her class. When she thought a lot of people's rough drafts were not up to par, she made office hours mandatory so that she can review your draft with you one on one and will most of the times even tell you what to write to ensure your final draft will get a decent grade. Make use of this and be sure to write the ideas/wording she tells you to--it will be less work on your side and she'll probably like it when she reads it again while grading it. I personally went to a ton of office hours, including like 3-4 for the first essay just to make sure I'm doing what she wants. For my final essay (which is worth like 30% of your grade), I didn't even really know what I was trying to say anymore after the rough draft because she said a lot of my content wasn't really answering the prompt. But in office hours she gave me a ton of suggestions and told me what to write and I just wrote what she told me to and honestly didn't even know what my point was at that point but somehow ended up with an A in the class (Got an A- on the first essay, and was pretty satisfied with other 2 1-page essays, didn't know what grade I got on those though). Personally I think this class is super helpful and will definitely give you a boost going into Comp 3. I was already decent at grammar/mechanics coming into college, but Dr. Chichester's class really improved my word choices, writing style, and analytical thinking. If I had to give only one suggestion for this class, GO TO OFFICE HOURS, EVEN IF YOU LIKE YOUR ESSAY BECAUSE YOU CAN ONLY DO BETTER BY GOING
Dr. Chichester is a wonderful instructor. She greatly helped me in developing my writing skills. I would summarize alot, but she pushed me to analyze and be more thoughtful when writing my papers. There are 3 major papers, and a 1 pager that constitute the grade including participation. She really is a great professor and would highly recommend in taking her class to help further advance writing skills.
I love Professor Chichester! She is one of the kindest people you'll ever meet at UCLA. You can tell she really cares about the students- whenever she had a problem and had to cancel class, she extended her office hours x10 just so she could help whoever wanted it! She also brings up some really great points in class, and the readings are pretty interesting. One time she even brought her dog in! If you have the chance to take Chichester, DO IT. She's kind, funny, smart, and helpful.
Professor Chichester
Is a wonderful and great professor, her readings r really fun, and she's willing to help students with drafts and how to improve essays.
I'm selling her course reader of "A Family Affair " for $35 ( in the student store is like 45 with tax. ( used for English comp 2) is like new just has a few pencil marks but can be easily erased.
