Malamuth teaches extremely interesting material in the best way that she can - lectures are on Powerpoint slides that she posts online the day before to take notes on. She is very good about the attentiveness of her students during lectures - puts relevant small video clips or funny jokes in the Powerpoint lectures to keep attention without taking away from the subject matter. However, she does not pay much personal attention to students - she did not make her office hours very accessible.

Keeping up with the reading is absolutely essential. There are quizzes occasionally - sometimes twice a week near the end of the quarter - and they are straight from the book or lecture. She is very consistent with questions on the midterm/final about her husband's experiments, only mentioned in lecture. Also required is participation in experiments by grad students in the Psych department (SO MUCH FUN). No homework, easy quiz points, easy grade - if kept up with the reading. Don't get behind.

I loved psych 10. The textbook we used was great, and the lectures were on the whole pretty interesting. We had quizzes twice a week, but if you did the reading and paid attention in class, they usually weren't too bad. The midterm was pretty straightforward, but the final was a bit trickier. Tamara is really concerned with student learning, and a very warm and enthusiastic person!

Professor Malamuth is a really nice woman and a great speaker, which is nice in a lecture class. I thought her lectures were great, complete with movies and jokes. But I do not think her testing is as fair as so many people say it is. She covers tons of material, and then asks very obscure and detailed questions on the tests without any real hint beforehand as to what is more important to focus on. The tests aren't really designed to show what you know, but rather find what you don't know. The quizzes can give you a false sense of security in terms of the level of difficulty you will face on the exams. I got all 4's and 5's (out of 5) on the quizzes before the midterm and then got like a B- or a C on the midterm. She is a really great professor, and if you're planning on becoming a Psych major and want to put in the time and effort to really read every word and pay attention to every second of every lecture, then this class will be enjoyable. But honestly, most people just take this class because it sounds interesting or they need it as a prereq for another social science, and in that case, I would recommend going with a professor who isn't so obsessed with little details.

This class was pretty good - very informative and the book was excellent. A lot of what is learned in Psych 10 is counterintuitive but that makes it an excellent primer to psychology itself, which tends to be counterintuitive. Malamuth lectured fairly well and I can't say anything bad about her except that I thought some of the test questions were needlessly obscure and/or nitpicky. Still, I recommend this class - very interesting, not too difficult and well done.

This class is a good class to take. It's really interesting, and reading the book is not bad at all--actually kindof fun. Malamuth's lectures... well, they aren't amazing. She seems like a nice lady but she just pretty much reads off of her lecutre slides which she posts online so there really isn't much point in being in class many times (although you do have to go to class often to take her quizzes). The classes is pretty easy too.

Her lectures are very good and she is easy to understand. The class was very interesting.

Some questions on her tests can be tricky. I would definately make sure to know EVERYTHING on the review sheets and study the lecture notes very very well because most of the material comes from there. Read the book too, but concentrate on the lecture notes. I got an A- because on the first midterm I concentrated on the book as opposed to the lecture notes..althought I still read the lecture notes.

oh yea...it is also very important to pay attention and follow her lecture because that will help you retrieve info during the exams.

She shows lots of "movies" on her power point lectures. Do print out the notes in advance so you can take notes on what she is saying because not everything she has on her power point presentation is on her online notes. READ THE BOOK, it really helps for exams, she doesn't lecture on everything or go into detail for that matter on everything that is tested on. the review sheets, which are just a bunch of questions, are very tedious, but if you can answer them or at least look up the answer in the psych book, then you are set. the review questions, seem to just prompt you to what will be on the test, exactly.

I took Psych 10 because I was interested in learning more about it. The book Psychology in Modules is a highly entertaining, easy read, and that's probably what I enjoyed most about the class. Malamuth's lectures, however, were not so captivating. The material was pretty interesting, but somehow I always just wanted to go to sleep . Maybe it was the fact that the class was from 3 to 5 pm, or that it was 2 hrs long. This was only my second big science lecture class, though, so maybe I'm just not used to that.
Overall, I liked Malamuth and thought she was very concerned about student learning and eager to help. However, I felt like the midterm and final were pretty tricky--I hardly studied for the midterm and got a C+, even though I went to all the lectures and did all the reading. Then I studied very thoroughly for the final and felt like I knew everything and did well, and I only came out with a B-. Go figure. At least I ended up with a B in the class, so it's not too bad. Malamuth is a good prof, though not much better than average as far as I'm concerned.

Professor Malamuth is not bad; she speaks clearly and concisely, posts up lecture notes online and overall cares about student learning. Lectures were interesting only sometimes..some of the material was dull. I didn't read the book but went to lectures and took notes but that isn't enough. To get a decent grade, you have to read the book, go to lecture, and study. I wouldn't say this is class is an easy A - the material is rather abstract and requires quite a bit of memorizing.

I think Professor Malamuth is a good teacher, but not quite deserving of all the endless praise all these reviews give her...

Well, positively, she is very concerned about student learning, and very prepared. Her tests are very fair and she puts up grades faster than any professor I've ever had.

However, I find lecture pretty boring. If you're one of those "short-attention-span" college students like I am, then you'll be prone to fall asleep in class, or just get up and leave after the quiz/during break like the scores of other students (I felt bad...but not bad enough to stay)

This class isn't hard, but it isn't a shoe-in for an A. It looks easy, but get careless and you'll end up with a crappy grade.

In conclusion, nice lady, good teacher, interesting subject, but I'm kind of apathetic towards the class.
