Hmmm...I can't think why Professor Addison (now Malamuth) has such low ratings. I think she is one of the best teachers I've ever had and this is one of the best classes I've ever taken at UCLA. She is a great lecturer; all her talks and examples (and the subject itself) are really interesting. She incorporates great videos into her lectures as well. Professor Malamuth explains everything pretty clearly and her examples are really vivid that you don't have to study much to get an A. I also love that she posts her lectures online so you can spend more time listening to what she says rather than furiously scribbling down the notes. It's also good because you don't have to buy an expensive course reader. She's so nice and welcomes all questions, and I heard from my friends that she's really helpful during OH. As for her tests, they are really not difficult. Sure, there are a few tricky questions but it's definitely possible to get an A. Most questions are from lecture and the rest is from the textbook readings that she assigns. I highly recommend doing the textbook readings as you go along rather than lumping them all before the midterm or final (plus, a few questions on quizzes are from the textbook readings). There are 11 quizzes, lowest score dropped, that are worth 10%. Midterm and final are 45% each, and final is not cumulative. All tests and quizzes are multiple choice so the class itself is pretty easy. Some people complain that her curve is hard, but it's already predetermined by the psych department so I think it's unfair to blame Professor Malamuth. Top 20% get A's, next 30% get B's, next 50% get C's and the bottom 10% get D's or F's. F's are usually assigned to those whose total percentage on all tests and quizzes are below 50%. As for the 6 experiment credits, they're really easy to obtain. I highly recommend this class and professor for anyone considering a psych or psych-related major or for a GE if it is still a GE class, you won't regret it!

I thought Addison was great. Her lectures were interesting and she had videos and demonstrations to make it more enjoyable. The midterm and final were tricky, but if you study you shouldn't have much of a problem. She also posted review sheets online which made up 80% of the tests. I would highly recommend her.

I was very surprised to read so many medicore reviews for professor Addison (now prof. Malamuth) after having taken her last quarter. I thought she was a great teacher. She makes the class very interesting. If you are up for reading and paying attention in class, you'll do fine in the class. I went in to her office hours during the second week, and she remembered my name and face out of tons of students for the rest of class...I felt like she was concerned about my experience in her class and my learning. I highly recommend taking psych 10 with her.

I liked her lectures and especially the video clips she showed. The midterm was an easy, multiple-choice deal. Never got to find out about the final, because she left. Good professor though.

Prof. Addison really tries hard to make sure she gets her material across. Even though the class runs twice a week on lectures, you can tell she spends time outside class preparing. She's always organized and has her Powerpoint slides online a night before the class. Her office hours are really helpful if you ever decide to go. I went once and she answered every question I asked her off the study guides. Her study guide questions make up 85% of the test questions, so the tests are pretty easy. That's not necessarily a good thing since she has the 20% A and 20% B rule. It pretty much comes down to test-taking skills, something you though would be left behind in high school. The class, as long as you study, would be an easy B, but not an easy A. I was pretty disappointed when she had to go on medical leave halfway through the quarter and we had to switch to the unorganized Hank Schlinger.

Prof. Addison is a VERY good Psych 10 teacher (also quite high-tech)!

When I first read her reviews here- I thought I was in for a very bad teacher. But, I found out for myself how effective she is.

Prof. Addison is VERY organized. All her lectures are on PowerPoint which you can print before class and take to the lecture. Also, her lectures are long, but enjoyable. She really tries to add humour and excitement to the class. Addison is very dedicated to her students as she is more than happy to meet with you during break, after class, and during office hours. If you need help, just ask!

The only stressful element of the class is that there your only grades are your final and midterm (this is the kinda class high school teachers told you about). The final had 60 questions and the midterm had 50...

So, study hard for these two and you'll be okay. Although there is a curve, it turns out to be pretty fair... 10% D/F, 40%C's, 30% B's and 20% A's! You should do fine! As a helpful hint- attend review sessions (especially the ones from the final and midterm), take the quizzes from the publisher (the book is rather dry), answer her review questions, and take the practice test. This was my first class at UCLA and I got an A, it is quite doable! Just remember- take your time on the multiple choice tests- you have A LOT of time and each question is like 1% of your grade!

As for her TA, he was always there (he did the reviews), but no one really used him. So, just remember you can always go to him for help as well!

Very good professor. Had her for the first half of Psych 10. All her lectures are done on powerpoint, and her examples are very interesting. Sometimes it was hard to stay awake, but nonetheless, her powerpoints were available online. For the midterm, she provided study questions. Completing the study questions, paying attention in lecture, and doing the reading were more than enough to be prepared for the midterm.

Addison was a very good lecturer. She lectures with Powerpoints and has a lot of video clips to show in class.

One bad thing is that she only takes 2 grades: the midterm and the final. So to do well, you need to study efficiently for those exams. How? Try to type up answers to her study questions for each topic she lectures on and expand on those subjects. You need to go to all the lectures and get a good understanding of the point of each of the experiments that have been done. Also, if she gives you a list of something, know those lists. They will likely show up on her midterm/final like on questions such as "all of these are something except...." kind of questions.

Be sure to do the required experiments early to get those out of the way. Psych 10 overall was a very interesting class.

she is such a sweet lady. I once went to her office hours to prepare for finals, and she stayed at her office for almost 6 hours answering questions. she is definitely one of the most helpful professors at UCLA. you just have to try to get to know her and seek help outside class. her exams were fair. it was not difficult at all. as long as you are able to answer questions on the practice final, you should have no problem getting A's in this course. i definitely recommend her for introductory psych class.

Whoever gave Addison bad ratings is probably just bitter about their grade. I took the class because I was thinking about majoring in Psych and now I definitely am. She's a wonderful professor. She posts lecture slides online so you don't have to scribble down every word she says. She shows interesting videos on recent research, which makes the 2 hour class pass by fast. The reading load is moderate, not too little and not too much. There is one midterm and one final so you have to do well on those to get a good grade in the class. But they are supereasy because most of the questions come from the lectures and readings. She even posts up study questions online so you know what to study. You will be more than okay if you do the readings and go to class. There were a lot of people who didn't, and that's the reason why they give Addison bad ratings. Take her and you won't regret it.
