This class is fully online, and doesn't offer much in terms of substance. That said, definitely recommend for an easy A.
Get into a group for the weekly papers (they're way too much to do on your own.) I was in a group of strangers and it worked out great when everyone does their part. Play the weekly games on time and you're set.
If you want to actually learn something about poli sci this isn't the class for you, but if you want a GPA boost for your lower divs go for it.

The actual work for this class is a bit tedious and annoying, but work is only required for 7 weeks. You can choose which prompts you want to write or skip a report as long as you write 7. If you do more than 7, your highest graded reports are the ones selected for your grade. Even if you do not do well on reports, you can still get an A. The professor offers so many bonus opportunities and many of them are for completion. ADDITIONALLY, the other half of the class is on a gaming platform. Some games give you points solely for completion, while others give points based on performance. The secret to success is play every game. Your performance will determine what percentile of the class you are in and that determines the grade boost at the end of the quarter. Everyone wins in the end! Take this class because the professor is the kindest professor I have had and the TAs are great too!

I beg everyone who sees this review. Do not take this class. I beg you. The graders are very picky and if these reviews were real this professor would be a 0. Everything is unclear and stupidly overcomplicated. Your grade is also based off luck and if your grader is a little nice (which they aren't). If you are thinking of taking this class, dont. You will regret it so be careful and take another class. Pol sci 10-20-30-40 are good just stick to those are avoid this. Just cuz it's online doesn't mean it's easy. I felt compelled to write this review because I dont want anyone to go through this class.

This professor is incredibly inconsiderate and cannot empathize. I am disappointed that the reviews led me to believe that Professor Lohmann is a person that she actually is not. She forced me to drop out of her course because I missed her deadline set at noon time by two hours due to recovering from sickness and being a caregiver to my grandparents who were at the hospital before break ended. She gave me an ultimatum that I either drop or receive an F because I missed the deadline by a few hours and should have been aware. She made announcements that we had until 1/6 to complete our game assignment so I thought that meant I had until the end of the day. I then read the syllabus and found that she has a deadline that sets at noon time. I emailed and reasoned with her; she was unnecessarily strict and not empathetic. She also told me my CAE accommodations (priority extensions) were irrelevant in this matter which was frightening to hear as typically accommodations override the professor’s rules to avoid setbacks for the student. That’s exactly what they’re for to begin with. I am relieved that I don’t have to spend a quarter with her but I am also disappointed enough that I have decided to write a review.

AVOID if you value your sanity. You’ll be working the equivalent of three poli-sci classes. Not worth it at all. My classmates and I nearly died.

Grade Distribution:
Weekly Reports: Majority of Grade
Game Play: Major Grade Boost
Course Reader Equalization Factor: Can either decrease or increase your grade
Bonus Points
---
The content of this class is probably my favorite political science class so far but its grading scheme is really weird. This is a wholly online class, without your traditional lectures and discussions, instead you essentially take surveys/games to gain points. And then every week you have to write a report about the class's averages on said surveys/games. For example a game may ask "Would you kill baby Hitler" and then in your report you have to answer how the whole class answered, and whether certain factors (like race, gender, or political leanings) affected their answer. The majority of your grade are made of these weekly reports, but the graders are super strict on said reports. If you take this class, JOIN A GROUP! This makes the workload so much lighter. The games are also essential to your grade. Essentially, if you have more points than 33% of your class then your grade gets boosted by 1 half letter (B+ to A-), more than 67% of the class your grade gets boosted by 2 half letters (from a B+ to an A), and if your the top 3 players than 3 half letters (B+ to A+). There are also couple bonus points assignments and make-up reports along the way that can increase your grade. However, there is also a course reader equalization factor that can either increase or decrease your grade depending on whether you grader tends to be either a harsh or nice grader (but this part is very insignificant and can't do much damage). Overall, this class is easy but has a big workload. Also Dr. Lohmann is not the most helpful in her emails but if you need a PTE code she will give it!

Insane workload. Impossible to complete projects without joining a group. "Graders" are also super picky and like to knock off points for the littlest things like paragraph indentation. Most students will likely get an A in the class due to extra credit opportunities. If you aren't able to enroll in the class, email the professor for a PTE code. She's also super lenient with extensions.

This class is definitely a great class to take if you would like an easy A. The road to success is very straightforward and the professor offers a lot of extra credit. But you have to make sure to put in the work. The written assignments are easy but time consuming, so make sure that you schedule your time accordingly. Overall, this is a great course for Political Science majors and I highly recommend it.

This class is difficult for sure, but it is very possible to get a good grade if you put in the effort. There are no sections, no midterm, no finals, no office hours, no lecture, just play the games and write the papers. Every week the "games" (they are more like psych logical experiments/surveys) take about 20 minutes-1 hour to play. Then 2 days later the prompt for the weekly paper is released. The prompts are daunting, they are usually upwards of 20 pages long but they are not that difficult and thoroughly explain the instructions for the weekly report. Each week's report is 2 or 3 pages and all of the reports together total to 25 pages. However, only your best 20 pages are graded, so each page counts as 5% of your grade. The reports are based off of the game results for the class. To be honest, the reports take a while to do - I would HIGHLY recommend making a group and working together. 2-3 pages doesnt sound like a lot, but to answer all of the questions in the prompt you need to do single spaced pages, 10-11 pt font and mess with the margins, so this is not like writing 2 pages double spaced. If you do well enough on the games you will get a grade boost. Simply put, this class will require your time and attention, but a good grade is more than possible

Susanne Lohmann is arguably one of the best professors I've had at UCLA. This class is not only interesting but extremely relevant to the current socio-political climate. If you follow her instructions, you can easily get an A in the class. The TA's (course readers) both gave great feedback and there's an equalization factor added or subtracted from your final grade to ensure both sections were graded fairly. There is no lecture for this class, and the deadlines give you plenty of time to get your work done on the online gaming platform and subsequent reports. Professor Lohmann was completely empathetic to the current situation in Spring quarter as well. I would highly recommend this class.
