Completely asynchronous class. Workload was manageable with weekly 'games' and papers. Papers were 2-3 pages, but can do individually or as a group up to 3 people. (I recommend doing it as a group, really lessens the work load). If you are good at analyzing data, making tables, and writing about them - this class will be an easy A. There are course graders that grade the papers. Some grade harsh, while others grade easier, and often times it changes which grader you get that week. The first week may be intimidating, but after week 1, you'll quickly get the hang of things.
This class was definitely one of the easier political science classes I've taken.

This class is an easy A only if you put in the work. I COMPLETED EVERY GAME in the Gaming Platform and this is required for an A. Had I not done this, I would have ended with an A-. For the weekly papers you will have to write throughout the quarter, please do them in a group of 3. This is what I did and it made life so much easier. My group would split up the work for each paper as evenly as we could each week so I never had to spend too much time writing my assigned portion. Also, DO ALL THE EXTRA CREDIT Professor Lohmann provides. These EC opportunities are not at all time consuming, yet she still gives you about a week to complete them. If you do all this, this class will be a breeze and an A is guaranteed.

This is the most "interesting" class I've taken at UCLA yet one of my favorites. The class is completely asynchronous which is a huge plus so you can work it around your schedule. The class is split into two parts: weekly reports and "games." Each week you have between Tuesday-Thursday to complete the games, which are essentially surveys and thought games. After Thursday, the results from the games are posted in a large data view and you have from Thursday-Tuesday to complete a weekly report where you analyze the data (which you can do in groups up to 3 people). The first week you have to do the report alone, and especially for the first one, it is VERY confusing. I was considering dropping the class because I honestly didn't know where to start but it got so much easier after just one report, so at least stick through two weeks. I got a C+ on the first report but I ended the class with an A+ because you are able to do make-up reports at the end of the quarter. I would definitely recommend this course!

I think this is a perfect class because of how much time Professor Lohmann has put into it. Looking back on the class I will say that I did learn a lot of interesting materials from the readings and a lot about the human experience from the games. I think my greatest takeaway will be the specific style in which Lohmann asked us to write the weekly papers. It’s a style of analytical writing that I’ve never done before, but if I ever need to generate a report for a given project I’ll probably come back to my assignments from the class.

By the 3rd week, I was an expert on making charts/tables in excel. Not difficult at all. Every week, there are papers to write ranging from 1 to 3 pages. Most of it is your interpretation of the data you will write about. Not even graded on accuracy because as long as you are gathering facts from the data you can interpret it any way you choose. It is not at all as hard as it may appear. Get in a group of three and you'll end up writing 1 page at the most. Fun class and you will learn a lot. Don't let the prompt overwhelm you. Also, Lohmann gives several (5) opportunities to write another paper if you want a lower grade replacement. There are also extra credit tasks (6-8) of them if you want to improve your grade. The games you play also improve your grade. Then there are the graders… if you happen to get a harsh grader, it's okay because she accounts for this at the end of the term as well. If you do end up in a group, you may have different graders and this is a good thing. Overall, The class seems very very very overwhelming the first week but don't drop it until you make it to the second week. It gets better. Based on email communication from her, she always kept the class informed on the next steps and reminders. Take this class with Prof. Lohmann.

I actually enjoyed this class. It was something different, but I understand why some people might struggle because it requires being able to analyze data and create graphs. Lohmann is one of the most helpful professors at UCLA. Her expectations are so clear, she wants her students to succeed, and is in constant contact to make sure students stay on track. I recommend!

DO!!!!NOT!!!TAKE!!!THIS!!!CLASS!!!
the workload is definitely NOT worth the fact that it is online and you can work remotely at home. The assignments are incredibly tedious and your game score constantly fluctuates so theres no way of completely knowing where you stand in the class. Her instructions are incredibly overwhelming to look at and she expects you to write and answer a bunch of questions to her prompts with such a limited amount of pages. Also, if you are not good at data analysis and working with Microsoft excel, you're screwed. You have to create two tables every week and she barely instructs you on how to do it so if you don't know how to do it it'll be very difficult. Take my advice and don't take this class if you're looking for something easy and not time consuming.

This is my second class with Professor Lohmann. It is 10 weekly reports with a fixed grading scale and each with 10% of your grade. She drops your two lowest scores and I think either three or four of them are raised to being 15% of your grade instead of 10%. There is extra credit given throughout the quarter but you are never 100% sure where you stand in the class. If you put effort in and do all the reports it is very possible to get an A but there is also stress involved. There is also games that you play that based upon your cumulative gaming score will give you a boost to your final grade.

For my quarter Professor Lohmann structured it as an online class. She makes taking an online class a bit less scary because she is very detailed and attentive to any questions her students may have. There is quite a bit of reading because you must reference articles in your weekly data reports. You ought to keep up with homework as well. Pay attention to all of the emails and announcements she sends out.

I highly suggest this class to anybody who has a busy/sporadic schedule because the class allows you do finish assignments on your own time.
