Hecht was great but her lectures are so dense it would really make sense for her to put her slides up online for students to access. Good luck trying to get everything she says in your notes, you may as well record if she lets you.
All I can do is reiterate what was already said about Hecht. Lectures were unorganized and for the most part, irrelevant. Readings were uninteresting and painful. The take-home midterm and final were on vague topics and it was always difficult to know what she wanted. Hecht always spoke to us in a snarky and condescending manner. She turned what could have been an interesting and dynamic class into an AWFUL experience. DO NOT TAKE ANY OF HER CLASSES, for your own sake.
This is the worst professor and the worst class I have ever taken at UCLA. She talks for hours about things that nobody understands, and what little people do pick up is often nonsense or based on little to no research (ex. "The Spanish Inquisition persecuted Jews, Moors, Witches, and Werewolves", yeah). All of this would be fun and amusing if she then gave easy assignments, but she does not. There was a take home midterm and a take home final, both of which were three 5 page papers (15 pages altogether for each) that we had a week to do on topics that nobody understood. Even though half the class dropped after the midterm was ASSIGNED, she still failed a good number of people and gave almost no A's. When passing out the take home final, she stated "I'll bet you guys wished you would have dropped after the midterm, huh?" In addition, the readings were awful and most of the assignments concerned readings that were posted when she assigned the topic. She also gave points for participation, but since she rarely took questions in class (her nonsense rambling does not allow it), she assigned an arbitary discussion section not listed on the syllabus or in the schedule. Altogether it was awful, the class almost revolted (I still think it should have) and Professor Hecht should never be allowed to teach at this school again. DO NOT TAKE HER!
