This professor definitely plays favorites. Even if you try your best and really make an effort on your assignments, it mostly goes unnoticed if you aren't one of her favorites. She singled out students for whom English was a second language, which I found very rude and disrespectful. I highly suggest that you AVOID any class she teaches.

this teacher is absolutely awful. she is extremely opinionated and tore every essay that didn't agree with her views to pieces. if you are a suck up and will write whatever she wants to hear than you'll get no lower than a B but if you want to not have a nightmare 10 weeks of writing bull**** crap about things then take a different professor. she is elitist and unkind and she picks favorites right from the get go. no beans on this woman. GET THE **** OUTTA HERE!!!!

Amazing class, and a challenging one as well. You will work hard for the A, because what passes for "good" in your high school English classes will not suffice here. Even strong writers will find themselves challenged, and I mean that in the best possible way. I came into the class as a very advanced writer, but Professor Griffin absolutely was able to help me take it to the next level. There is a BIG emphasis in discussions on critical thinking and university-level intellect - she constantly talks about the acquisition of "cultural capital" as a method of expressing one's learning, and if you can demonstrate some of your knowledge in class and in her essays you'll leave a positive impression on her. Since the Writing II class covers the rhetoric of popular science, your essays need to have a particular focus on analysis. Rhetoric is not something that they teach in high school, but Professor Griffin does an excellent job of explaining all of the terms and concepts.

I highly recommend this class for skilled writers. If you're not quite up there in terms of your writing ability, you should still take this class, but don't expect this to be an easy A or even A-. It's challenging for a reason.

She is by FAR, one of the best English professors I have EVER been so lucky to have came across. First, I want to stress that her class is not an "easy A" despite what the ratings say. I came into the course thinking that I can BS my way to an A, but I was a fool to have thought that way. She makes you work hard for it, but she encourages you to be a better writer. She inspires you to think on a higher level, and most importantly, you take away really deep and meaningful life lessons from her discussions in class. I found her curriculum to not be too rigorous, but it definitely challenges you. Her readings are never overwhelming. Oh, and to correct the reviewer below me, she definitely doesn't play favorites. I believe she's as fair as any teacher can be. She gives you the grade you deserve, which means you will have to work hard to get an A, but by no means is it impossible. She gives everyone a fair chance to improve their grades...and she'll probably never give you anything lower than a B- if she sees that you've made an effort. Honestly, TAKE HER CLASS! You won't regret it. She's a GREAT teacher! You will grow as an individual from having taken her course.
