Quarter: Fall 2019

Most useless and unintuitive professor I've had the displeasure of having. Easily one of the top 3 worst professor I had here. His only redeeming factor is that he posted the lectures notes online and posted the audio recording of the lecture. I have never hated a subject more after taking this class.

A damn passionate man.

It's pretty difficult to encounter a professor who is very passionate about his field (well, they are probably passionate but they don't know how to convey it). Pamarti is definitely one of those who can really ignite that burning EE flame within you.

Lectures are what like other people said. Very effective, engaging, and easy to follow. He does go overboard in covering some very basic material but I liked it because sometimes, I forget the most basic things and covering it again just reminds me what happened. He didn't seem all that disappointed in going it over again. It's just that some of us were a bit shy in asking because he kind of implicitly give that "judging" vibe.

Homework and tests were rough. Very challenging, nothing like the lecture. It's like in class, you learn how to write simple sentences (e.g. "I love to eat apples." or "I love to eat apples because they are healthy.") and then come homework and tests, it becomes a gigantic research essay on the history of apples combined with a philosophical discussion of the meaning of apple and a lengthy footnote explanation of the health benefits of an apple. Indeed, I exaggerate but the homework and tests are difficult and challenge you to think intuitively.

Not sure how he curves/grades but I ended up with C+ and C on EE10 and EE110 respectively with Pamarti. I am definitely not the brightest bulb around the engineering school but I felt taking these two foundation EE classes with Pamarti was hella worth it. Take him if you can!!

1 word - challenging.

If you can do his homeworks, you can do his exams. Make sure you attend class and attempt the homework problems with friends because that's where the learning happens. TA office hours also help, but it's important to understand the problems and know how to solve them because the MT and final questions are so similar to the homeworks. Of course, expect to spend 10-15 hours on the homework every week WITH FRIENDS. At least it's with friends... right?

I had him for EE 10, EE 11L, and EE 110. One of the best professors I've had at UCLA. He honestly cares about how the students are doing and puts in a huge amount of effort to answer all questions, both in and out of class (e.g. office hours and Piazza).

The homeworks are fairly long (8-10 problems) and take a significant amount of time, but solutions are released, and I would definitely recommend studying them for the exam. For EE110, we also had a small project , which essentially was just a longer homework problem.

The exams are also open book and open note, and he posts his own notes online for each lecture. His exams are very fair and doable if you take the time to understand the material and do all of the homework, but in EE 110 they graded algebra mistakes on the exam pretty harshly, so be careful about that.

Had him for both EE10 and EE110. Very good lecturer, and his style of teaching is very accommodating for questions or further inquiry. Everything he teaches, he does from first principles, and he focuses less on complicated mathematics and more on making sure you have the intuition for what is happening in a circuit.

I would say that he does tend to go a little overboard sometimes in his zeal to make sure everyone understands everything fully. There were times when we would spend one or two whole lectures on a relatively simple concept, simply because he took the class's silence to his questions as "None of us know what we're doing. Please help us."

One of my favorite professors I've had at UCLA, definitely take him. You will learn a lot.

I think the other reviews give you a good summary of what the class is like. I did well in the class so here are some tips:
* He posts up lecture notes online - read them
* Go to lecture and ask questions when you don't understand (his teaching style is VERY welcoming to questions - he wants to make sure you understand what is going on)
* Go to TA and ask questions, I found them really helpful

His tests were OPEN NOTE OPEN BOOK. This means that you should have a set of notes that you know like the back of your hand and it will be very helpful to you. This also makes studying easier because you only need to make sure you understand the material and just practice some hw questions/examples.

Professor Pamarti is definitely very patient with students and truly cares about student learning. EE110 is very conceptual course as well, but Professor Pamarti really helps you understand it. The other thing is: go to the TAs! I had so much help from my TAs that I was able to do well on the final and midterm. His homework are really tough, but they really drive the point home. I definitely recommend him!

For sure one of the better EE professors out there. I never really miss class, but for his class it was way more worth going than a lot of my other classes. He really tries to connect to the students to get a feel of how well they understand what he is saying. His pace is not fast at all and he never leaves us hanging. Always very helpful in answering questions (or even posing them for us). His lecture style and attitude about being a professor is definitely up there. A very good example of what a UCLA Professor should be like.

That being said, ee110 is not particularly easy. If you were list the subjects we covered, it'd maybe take 6 lines. That means we expanded the crap out of those topics and you better be on the pro-level come test time. No way you can cram and "get by" on this one. You need to put in a bunch of work to do well, but it is absolutely worth the work, because it for sure pays off.

Going to discussions is a much. We had two awesome TAs this quarter which helped, but even if they weren't great, they were needed. Overall, ee110 is tough and Pamarti is REALLY good. Just be prepared to work!

Lets put it this way, most of circuit professors are crap and they expectations are too high. Professor Pamarti can be a decent lecturer but his homeworks were super hard and his examples are way to easy compare to that. He is also very stingy in terms of grading. If you taking this professor you on your own and plus he gives super tricky exams that will lower your chance to get a high grade. however, he is much better than other circuit professors such as Gupta. Best of luck and study your butt off for this course.

This class was definitely a step up from EE 10, but Pamarti was a really good lecturer. Probably one of the best I've had so far. He gives his own HW problems, and they're incredibly challenging. It's funny because he specifically forbids you to work on the HW in groups, but I had to do that every week just to scrape by all the HW's. On the flip side, his exams, at least this quarter, were not that much harder than the HW's. If anything, they were easier. That doesn't mean the class is easy though, since learning how to do all the HW problems is pretty hard in itself. We got a lot of help from the TA's, so make sure you get down all the HW's if you care about your grade.
