Prof Steinberg is great! He genuinely cares about his students, and makes it very easy to get an A in his class. The workload is very manageable, and the material is actually pretty interesting and relevant. You're only assigned three formal essays (my class only had to do two though). If you have the opportunity I would definitely take him!
Professor Steinberg is really nice but is a super slow grader. You will have no idea what grade you have in this class until after it's far too late to change it (like after the quarter ends, and probably after or the day of the day final course grades are due). The content of the class was really fun but there was a TON of reading and WEEKLY essays on what you read. You won't get the essays back graded pretty much at all, you'll just keep writing and see your grade at the very end. The few things I got back were A's, and then I got a C in the class, no idea how. Just be prepared for a lot of reading and writing and mandatory in-class participation.
Great class with a great professor. The content is very much connected to what we experience in our everyday lives. The workload is pretty intense with multiple weekly readings and reflections, along with 3 papers scattered throughout the quarter. Lots of reading and writing, but definitely doable if you are able to devote a few minutes everyday to doing a little of the assignments. This professor is a bit unorganized with the way he assigns things on CCLE, and I never understood his grading scheme. At the end of the quarter, I did not really know what grades I got for my reflections or essays, but if you put the work in, there is a good chance that you will get an A. Would definitely take again.
Steinberg was an amazing professor. The class itself is very interesting as it’s all about cultural myths. It’s very relaxed and discussion based. For essays, he revises your first draft for you and allows you to resubmit it incorporating his edits for a higher grade. So basically, you get two shots at every essay with his help. He genuinely cares about his job and his students’ wellbeing. If you participate and put in effort, this class is a breeze.
Professor Steinberg lost my essay revisions and ended up giving me an incomplete grade that will remain on my transcript permanently. It took him 5 weeks and three emails to respond to me as to why he gave me an incomplete grade and 9 weeks to finally give me a grade. However, I still believe that he is a great professor. He was always willing to help and he provided a lot of insightful feedback on my reflections and essays. However, I would only recommend this class to people who actually need to improve their writing since the class was a lot of work (around 10 4-6 page reflections, 2 5-7 page essays, and a pretty involved final project). As a math major, it is nice to have improved as a writer, but I would not take this class again because I won't really need to be that good of a writer and I felt that I was a good enough writer to get As in GE classes before this class. It is nice that if you do all the work, you're pretty much guaranteed an A though.
Dr. Steinberg was a really nice guy! The class would consist of reading a book and making weekly reviews about each chapter. Pretty interesting how he conducted the class, relating the topics from the book to the world nowadays.
There are 2 main papers and a final group project. If you read with time, your writing is fine and participate in class, you will surely get a good grade.
If you're taking this class for an easy A to get your english requirement, be aware that there is a lot of writing in this class. There are 4-5 readings and analysis to complete for homework. It isn't difficult and he assigns them a week beforehand, but may take a while to read the passages. The passages aren't too boring but some can be extremely long. The two essays assigned in his class are pretty easy and his grading is very nice. However, his handwriting is completely illegible so make sure to ask him how to revise your essays.
Steinberg is an amazing person and a great teacher. I absolutely despise English class and he made it bearable. The homework and readings seem endless but we ended up doing only 2 essays and a final project. He lets you turn in each essay twice to show improvement. I feel like he is a forgiving grader. I feel like his life lessons were more valuable than the class material. I would highly recommend taking comp 3 with Steinberg
Dr. Steinberg's class was super interesting. My main advice is to carefully read the book and spend time doing the reflections, as they will be a great help for writing the essays when the time comes around. Steinberg encourages his students to attend his office hours for any questions you may have - take advantage of this! I would highly recommend enrolling.
He grades the contents of the essays pretty easily but he really picks on your grammar. So if you visit the writing center and all that you should be getting A/A- for your essays. The stuff he makes you do for homework are pretty easy but it literally takes hours to do. You have to read all the articles and write a reflection on them so you end up writing like a good 5 pages every other day. While it's easy it's definitely high in workload. He's a pretty cool professor though and he tries to get you to think about certain issues and problems. The topics in class are interesting to read on. Just be prepared to the amount of work you have to do for this class.
