Hardinger is one of my favorite professors that I've had at UCLA. He is amazing at walking students through practice problems on his slides (his course reader is very organized and useful) and is an enthusiastic and entertaining lecturer. Even though discussion isn't mandatory, I highly recommend going, and I also recommend doing ALL the practice problems for each lecture. It seems like a lot at first but it's really how to understand problems. Do all the practice midterms/finals as well. I hated chemistry after 14A and 14B with Lavelle, but Hardinger is a lot easier is definitely a better professor. Definitely take Hardinger for 14C and 14D!
Selling old PDFs of Hardinger's exams + keys for both of his midterms and finals that are not on his website. He loves to re-use old tests so high chance one of these will be your exact test. I am selling 70+ exams for only $4! Text me at **********
This class was okay. The lectures are on Bruincast, so you don't really have to go to class, but I usually went anyway except for Fridays. Hardinger is really helpful and clear at explaining things. He makes a lot of jokes. You only really need the Thinkbook and Lecture supplement. Try to do all the Thinkbook questions as they help you understand the concepts for the midterms. Also use Hardinger's website. It's another resource that could really help you. There were 2 midterms, and they were okay, but you should make sure you do well on them. Discussion sessions aren't mandatory, so I never went to one. Overall, the material can be confusing, but the class is alright.

Prof Hardinger is as nice and welcoming as they come here at UCLA. Almost a caricature of a dad, mustache and all. His lecture supplement book is by and far the main thing you need to succeed in his class, which is nice since it's a nearly-complete copy of all his lecture slides. The textbooks are hardly required and a waste of money in my opinion. USE HIS WEBSITE, it's practically a godsend for understanding materials, especially when cramming. His other spiraled book of practice problems is very useful I hear, although I personally made minimal use of it. He uses Bruincast! There is technically extra credit in the form of forum posts a la Lavelle, but my honest opinion is to not count on them, and to complete them primarily for peace of mind. Overall his exams are fair, keeping in mind most everything from lecture is fair game. Although he will claim otherwise, he will make the second midterm harder if the average for the first was too high, so beware. To summarize I greatly enjoyed this moderately difficult class and he really did wonders for my enthusiasm for the oh-so-dreaded organic chemistry.
I did really well in this class and did not find it to hard as long as you practice all the previous midterms and finals, ended up with an A+.

This class was my favorite thus far at ucla!! I had Lavelle for 14 a and b and worked so hard just to pull off a B, but in this class I didn't work nearly as hard but was able to understand the material much better and ended with an A+! He is an amazing professor and an extremely fair (and arguably easy) test giver, if he is an option do anything you can to get him.
Organic Chem, the Mother of All Weed out Pre-Med Courses, or so I thought. General chemistry was for some reason very difficult especially with the professors that taught it. I heard good things about Hardinger so I wasn't too worried but still the subject of O-chem isn't always simple. Nonetheless here's my honest review of the class and of Hardinger.
Hardinger: He's such a lame derpy type of professor but in a good way. His lectures are structured and organized and I love the powerpoint, much better than random chalk drawings and a course reader in all caps. His jokes can be funny and some are just lame but they add flavor to the lecture. One note is that it is true that he wastes a good chunk of time with his jokes/metaphors that you kind of wish he would just move on to actually teaching. He gives us vocab words to know and online tutorials on concepts so that's very kind of him.
A note on the model kit: He and the TA's always advertise buying a model kit but there's really no need to. I didn't get a single question that required the model kit. Of course it helps if your spatial reasoning isn't the best but there are other ways to picture it or alternative methods to answer the problem. It's also a hassle and time waster to use it during an exam.
Exams: His exams are very straightforward. You either know it or you don't so he really tests you knowing the material or not. Unlike Scerri and Lavelle, Hardinger doesn't throw in crazy confusing curve ball questions. The only downside to his exams is that it's easy to lose small points that accumulate and some of his questions are very general. Often times if your answer isn't specific enough or close to his answer key you get deducted. However, most of the time if they answer is relevant and accurate you will get the points.
Lecture Supplement: This is the required book with all his power point slides. He says buy the most recent one but I used an old one and it was the same
Thinkbook: Not vital but a good practice to get a deeper comprehension of the material. Nicely organized with the answer keys. If you want extra problems go ahead and buy one but if you don't, it's not going to kill you.
Grading scale: An 85% in the class is an A- so quite a generous grading scale. Just keep in mind every point counts.
Never went to a lecture because it's Bruincasted (for all you 8 AMers). To be honest, this class did take a lot of time and effort but the material was somewhat interesting and I would recommend Hardinger for 14C to anyone.
