After receiving a B- in Math 31A and a A- in Math 31B, I was expecting a very low grade in this class, since Math is not really my thing, However, I honestly feel that the material covered in Math 32A is easier than the content in both Math 31A and Math 31B.

Professor Wang is a young, quirky, and funny professor all around. She often would give us long breaks (about 10 mins per 2 hour session). In terms of her teaching style, Wang was very conceptual and often disregarded doing examples for the class. As a result, I did honestly rely on the textbook very heavily for studying for the exams. However, I did find the textbook to be very sufficient, as most of the topics explained on there were articulated concisely.

For the Summer, she had two grading schemes, and she took the higher of the two grades. (Scheme 1: 20% HW, 15% Quizzes, 15% MT 1, 15% MT 2, 35% FINAL, Scheme 2: 15% HW, 10% Quizzes, 20% MT1, 20% MT2, 35% Final). There was one quiz per week and the material from the previous two lectures were tested. I personally felt most of the quizzes were pretty straightforward. She even made mistakes on a few quiz problems and ended up giving full credit to everyone.

The main thing that sucks about this class is the Homework. Literally my summer was eaten up by doing the homework all day. Like some of the problems took up an entire page or so. I remember on 4th of July weekend I was stuck trying to finish up and upload a 32 page document to gradescope. When I say she gives a lot of homework, I literally mean a good 70 questions per week. So be wary of that.

The first Midterm was pretty easy. Midterm 2 she assigned two problems that were merely impossible to do in the time limit. As a result, she ended up giving full credit if you partially solved them. These two questions were so difficult that even my TA had trouble solving these during his discussion section. Just try to show your work as much as you can and you will receive full credit. Likewise, the Final exam was slightly difficult, but they give a lot of partial credit and they don't take away that much points for wrong answers. So once again, show your work and write EVERYTHING you know!

All in all, I had a moderate experience in Math 32A with Wang this Summer. Another complaint is that she took very long to get our grades in for some reason. She uploaded them almost a week past the due date.

Stephanie is very approachable so don't be afraid to reach out to her for help! If you study hard and do a lot of practice problems you'll be fine!

This class was very systematic which I really enjoyed. Homework was always due Saturdays, quizzes every few lectures and tests every 2 weeks. She went over book examples in class and proved some of the stuff which wasn't too necessary (probably my only gripe.) The homework was a lot at times but when there was a test she gave us way less so it was every other week that was a bit hard. However, it was probably so much homework because it was summer but honestly not awful. Go to discussion sections as similar problems will probably appear on tests etc. Midterm 1 was super easy, Midterm 2 was quite hard and the Final was super fair and all the quizzes were also quite fair I just haven't taken Math in like a year so I forgot all of Calculus. Make sure to brush up as there wasn't too much review on that end during the beginning of class. Finally, she was incredibly caring and tried super hard to make us feel comfortable and adapted super well to online learning so would definitely recommend her to anyone looking to take a math class.

If I'm being frank here, I regret taking this class over the summer, especially with Stephanie. Don't get me wrong though. I loved Stephanie as a person as she was super funny and she had a nice sense of humor, but I just didn't like her as a professor.

For me, I've always hated math and this course made me want to jump off a cliff or just hit my head on the table because it was INSANELY difficult. No, I was not slacking off. I genuinely studied and did the homework on time, but the exams were hard to do, especially with the time constraint.

During lectures, she focuses a lot on the concepts and what I had trouble with was understanding the concepts. The concepts covered in this course is not easy, and I just find that her way of teaching is too fast-paced to the point where I'm struggling to keep up taking notes. I do find that it's reasonable for a lot of professors to go over concepts during lecture and have students find examples that utilize the concepts covered in class on their own time. This aspect is very similar to Math 31B where my math professor also tended to cover concepts with a lesser focus on examples. However, I personally don't think this is a good idea for this course because the concepts are really difficult to understand and the only way I think students are going to understand it better is by utilizing examples.

One aspect that I disliked about this course is Stephanie's grading. Her grading is on a straight scale and when I mean straight scale, I MEAN STRAIGHT SCALE. Take it from someone who did right around the average on the midterms and finals for both Math 31A and Math 31B. Even though I got Cs/Bs (I even failed both of my math midterms for Math 31B, but pulled through on the final), I got Bs in both classes. From this, you can see that there was a pretty generous curve based on the class. I just didn't see this when I received my grade. Both of my previous math professors also took our lowest homework assignment and quiz off our final grade and I honestly think that helped with my grade. Stephanie didn't do this and counted every single homework assignment and quiz. Yes, I get that this is a six-week summer session, but could you please be a bit more generous to future students? (I'm pretty sure Stephanie is reading this review at some point because she mentioned once that she read the one review about her on BruinWalk)

In addition, Stephanie is pretty slow in logistic things for this class as shown by how slow it took her to give us a syllabus and our final grades. My advice for future students taking this course is to not do in a summer session (unless you're a math whiz) and take Stephanie if you want a challenge.

Mrs Wang is a grad student that taught 33A Spring 2019. I personally liked Stephanie and did rly well in her class, however I must admit it is not an easy class. Stephanie's teaching style is very in depth and very fast. She will often give you very technical definitions of every theorem, sometimes with insufficient explanation so you are often left confused with a whole board of writing. There have been many times where no one in the class understood what she had just proven. However, her homework, while long and hard, is helpful with understanding the material. However, her quizzes are very fair. To study for the midterms and finals, I reviewed the quiz and hw solutions and that helped me a lot with the test. If you can understand Stephanie's lecture, you will be very knowledgeable of the material and do well.

Stephanie is a good professor who explains concepts extensively and manages her teaching pace well. Homework workloads are moderate, and exams are not super hard. The only thing that makes me crazy is her grading: although she designed delicate grading schemes to balance between homework, quizzes, and exams, she didn't seem to curve the class and, instead, drew a 95pt line for A, which kicked me out by just 0.3 pt. Her harshness in final grading is in great contrast with her helpfulness during classes and in emails; just one or two mistakes in midterms and final can ruin it all. If you are not good at math, don't be afraid to take her class, but definitely not recommended for those who get nervous during exams.
