Trimble is a nice guy but the other reviews are right about the fact that his lectures are 3 decades old. The TAs are helpful with the labs which btw are super easy, and the labs account for a lot of the grade. The lectures were from 6 to 9 which is way too late in the day for anyone to stay awake, especially when you're listening to him rant about rocks and climate. Even the labs (section) were late during the day. The pros were that lecture was once a week and labs were very easy. However, the midterms (no final) are not too easy. You have to know all the terms he writes on the board and do ample reading. The second part of the course was worse since everything was about climate types of specific regions and you need to know details. Make sure you attend class and do the labs!!

I really thought that the other reviewers were exaggerating. There's no way that a GE could be that hard, right? Wrong. HARDEST GE EVER! As a person, Trimble is really likeable. As a professor, there is much to be desired. Every lab and slide is from the 70s (honest, the dates are still on them). His exams are ridiculously hard. I fought to get a B-. I was just extremely happy it wasn't a C. You truly have to devote your life to the class to get an A. Even if you do all reading and labs, you still could do badly. Only take Trimble if you are absolutely AWESOME at geography, because even the many geography majors in the class agreed that it was impossible. The best part of this class was when it was over.

Oh my god. Please don't take Trimble. He is a genuinely nice man, but he's out of touch with his students and all of his slides and his notes are from 30 years ago. The lab booklet that you have to buy from the course reader is also full of homework that was assigned 30 years ago. The page numbers are off and refer to a different text book than the one that you are required to buy. Class is 3 hours long from 6-9pm and it's pure torture. It's hard to have the stamina to last through the entire lecture. I studied SO HARD for the midterm and felt confident going into it, expecting an A, but ended up with a B, B- ish. It's a pretty ridiculous class for a GE - very hard. He really means it when he says that the book is second to his lectures. You really need to listen to what he says and memorize/understand all the terms he jots down on the board because they SHOW UP ON the midterm and final. But it's just so hard, having to listen to him ramble for 3 hours. By "final" I mean a second midterm on week 10. Nothing on finals week. That's about the only good thing about this class. I can get it over with this Tuesday. STAY AWAY FROM TRIMBLE! He's a caring, concerned guy but don't torture yourself, please!

Trimble is really into geography, but his teaching ability leaves something to be desired. He just isn't really in tune with the students. He can talk on a lot of stuff and will expect you to know little things on tests while leaving out really key things. Study hard and know everything that you can.

Professor Trimble does a good job of teaching this course. Yes, he's a little old-school...all his overheads are from 1976 and all he did in the first 20 minutes of every lecture in my class was complain about the bookstore and the room. He isn't a bad professor, though. He expects you to come to class (go to class!), and while it was sometimes difficult to stay awake in there at 9 am, the book is good and if you just take some semi-coherent notes and actually study, you'll be fine. All the labs are super easy and you finish them long before class is over. They will bring up your grade--the curve helps too. Just make sure you study the rainfall graphs for the final exam. You have to match them to the appropriate region, and they aren't in the book. I would definitely take Trimble again--oh, and this guy also happens to be the leading man on soils like in the world. He didn't talk about them in our class too much. He is in his office a lot, too, and is very approachable. Stay awake and you will enjoy this class, I think.

Trimble is a great guy. He is so nice and easy to talk to. His Geography 1 class was very interesting. Being a geog major, it was a great class and I still remember most things he explained. The TA's were really helpful and don't worry about the tests because there's a HUGE curve. The lab section brings your grade up. Take Trimble, he's not that bad, in fact I will take him for another class.

I took Geog 1 with Prof. Trimble and absolutely loved it! He is a tough professor, but one who you really come to like. I took his class because I wanted to get out of taking a hard science class, and in doing so got hooked on Geography. Watch out for his tests though, because they can be really challenging. Prof. Trimble is very approachable, and makes an effort to meet with students outside the classromm if they wish. Bottom line: if you want to learn, take Trimble.

My major is nowhere close to Geography or Atomosphere science. I took this course for my GE requirement. However, after taking this course, I am amazed by all the information I have learned from this course. Class is tough, but the professor cares highly about student's learning. If you're considering to take Geography 1, I'm sure you'll be able to learn a lot about this physical environment. As far as professor's concerned, he's a real kind gentle man who cares about students' understanding more than anything else.

Professor Trimble is one of the nicest professors you will ever meet. He is very concerned about student learning and is available all day for office hours. Geography 1 is very interesting, and the labs are simple worksheets and are worth a good part of your grade. I strongly recommend this class.

Trimble's lectures are very scattered and off schedule. His Geography one class is extremely tough. If you study a lot, you still might not do well.
