Spring 2020 - This review is for public health 150. She is an amazing professor! At first I was scared to take her because there wasn’t any reviews on the bruinwalk, but now I’m glad I took her! Grades are based on clicker points, a midterm, a 3 page paper, and a non cumulative final. Midterm questions are mostly based on her lecture slides so as long as you study the slides you should be good. This class is kind of on the easy side I guess. I always started studying(from scratch) like two-three days before the midterm/final and was still able to pull an A. The most important thing you should focus is not memorizing the datas , you should focus on the overall objective/concept of the lecture. There wasn’t anything to memorize for this class, if there is, she(or the TAs) will let you know that a particular percentage/statistics would be on the midterm. For the paper, you’ll get a perfect grade as long as you follow the rubric. There is also a super easy 5 point extra credit as well. Overall, this class was interesting and easy!

Spring 2024 - Professor Shaffir has been one of the best professors I have had here at UCLA. She is so well informed about the material, and even though our lectures were almost 2 hours long, it was very interesting, and she let us have a break halfway through. She was accommodating to the protesting situation and offered many chances for extra credit. This class made me wish I was a public health major. I would 10/10 recommend this class.

Fall 2020 - Professor Shafir is honestly the best! The material was very manageable and the tests were not bad either, I believe the average for the midterm was an A-. We had one midterm and a final which is not cumulative. It was open notes and proctored through zoom. You also do not need to attend lectures, but she had live sessions once a week and we would just talk about COVID or topics relating to the lecture for the week which she posts on CCLE. She is very helpful and one of the reasons why I am excited to minor in public health.
