Overall great English class. Had Popham for both Comp2 and Comp3.
There is a total of 3 papers for each class, all of which you work on progressively throughout the quarter. Before this class, I hated English, but Professor Popham has changed that. She truly teaches you how to write. If you don't mind putting in the time, this class will pay off. It is quite a bit of work but you will see the results. Revise your drafts as much as possible! And don't be scared to ask for help. She looks for effort and that will get you a better grade
workload is heavy but if you make efforts, you will be fine. I get an A. Sell three required books for her class. I have necessary notes on my book to make you save much time and make class much easier. Text me: ********** if you want the books.
The workload is really too much and but you will learn a lot. However you really have to revise a lot on your paper and every week there are a lot of assignments. After all it is doable. Email me if you need the three required textbooks for her course. My email is *************
She is a very thorough teacher and at times her workload may seem like a lot, but the class is do able. There are a lot of handouts and workshops and she expects you to revise. I was a good student who got excellent marks on all assignments but when it came to the end of the quarter after revising my 3 papers multiple times, my final grade came out to a B-.
I have never worked so hard in an English class, and having put in extra effort on essays and revising was shocked at this grade.
People say take this class because it will make you a better writer, but I don't think that is the case. I just learned how to write to her standards. If I were you I would go with an easier and less strict teacher who doesnt have these many guidelines.
Definitely take her. She looks for effort, so just revise as many times as you can. She gives great advice on how to write that you might not get anywhere else. Attendance is important, but she's very nice and approachable. Selling The Craft of Revision 5th Ed by Murray, Read to Write 3rd Ed by Murray, and Easy Writer 5th Ed by Lunsford. All of these books are necessary for her class. Email me: *************

She is wonderful. She made me a better writer and her class is very interesting. Peer grading can be a little frustrating at times, but it's rewarding in the end.
There was a lot of work, but it all serves a purpose. Also don't get behind on your journals, I had to write all of mine in a day and it is really hard to remember what you did in class unless you wrote it down!
Got an A too. I think she gives higher grades on essays that have obviously been revised. The one I completely revamped got an A while my two others that were solid and I didn't change got much got -A's. So revise!
BEST PROFESSOR!! Very helpful! Got As on all papers :)
Selling all the books you need for English comp 3 for $80. (includes Read to Write by Murray, Easy Writer 5th edition by Lunsford, and the Craft of Revision fifth edition by Murray. Text me at ********** or email ************* if interested :)
Professor Popham is one of the most incredible teachers that one could have for English. She is more of like a teacher than a professor. She states her expectations at the beginning of the year and never strays from them. She takes the time to work with you if needed and she genuinely wants you to become a better writer. Now, I absolutely hated writing going into this class. Professor Popham really changed that for me though and she taught me a lot of techniques that I will be able to use in the future.
Here is the grade break down for her class:
Attendance-10%
Participation-15%
Essays-75% (25% for each one)
Attendance:
This is an easy 10%. Yes, she expects you to come to class everyday and arrive ON TIME but it is not that difficult. She keeps the class engaged and interesting so it is not too bad.
Participation:
This includes a lot of little stuff that she assigns. It is mostly busy work but it is not difficult so just do it and you will be fine.
Essays:
You write 3 essays in the entire course: a research paper, compare and contrast and an analysis of the entire class. The great thing about the essays is that you can revise them throughout the entire quarter and you do not submit it for grading until the very end in a portfolio. I would take advantage of this and try to have her revise it at least 2-4 times. By doing so, she has helped you as much as she can and she has basically laid out her expectations. The essays can even be crammed out in one night and you will be fine.
Overall, easy class and easy A. Like I said, there is a lot of busy work but I never complained because it could have been a lot worse.
I am selling the following textbooks for the class: the Course Reader, Read to Write by Donald Murray, and Easy Writer by Lunsford. Originally, they were about $130 total and I am selling them for $70. They are lightly annotated (with quality notes) and they are ALL required for her class.
