If you are looking for an easy A , don't take this class. Dr. Popham is harsh when it comes to grading papers, but luckily she does portfolios, so there is enough time to make your papers better. Along with the 3 papers that we wrote, she gave other assignments. the class by no means is easy, but if you truly want to improve your writing then you should take the class. I'm selling the all three books needed for the class, message me at **********. two of the books have to be physical copies because you will need them in class.
I took Popham for Comp 2 thinking that I would improve, but it was the exact opposite. The workload was insane and I was constantly writing and revising new essays. She was very strict and was so annoying about the margins. I was afraid to ask for help, which hindered my success in the class. I would not take her if you want to get a decent grade.
Dr. Popham is engaged and helpful, but she really isn't much concerned about the grades student receive. A few people in the class were retaking and I doubt if all of them could get As, since she gives so few of them. This class helps you build a legitimate format that is going to be quite useful when you write research or literary analysis for other classes. But if grades matter to you, don't take it! Even my Writing 2 class is much more friendly than this.
Heavy workload (though not hard). There are peer reviews, writing logs, quotation journals, reflection journals, and revision strategies. If I'd known I spent all this time receiving a B, definitely wouldn't take it.
Dr.Popham was one of the best professors I've encountered in UCLA. She has a quirky way of being funny and she is also very comprehensive when it comes to missing class and will often find a way of helping the student make up for the missed work. However she is NOT tolerant of tardiness, on special occasions, if you're late for her class when a peer draft is due your paper will be put down one letter grade when accumulating the final grade. So HEADS UP! You will approximately work on 3 papers throughout the quarter which require a lot of revision. A lot of writing in journals is also expected, but it is all so helpful. This class consist of a lot of work and dedication. So good timing is necessary. There where times when i felt like i would fail because of the workload, but evenly distribute it and you have yourself a well rounded class! (:
Selling all the required textbooks for less than 10$ on OfferUp!
Dr. Popham is a really fun and interesting professor! She has an agenda for each class session, and her discussions are very engaging. I like how she relates certain readings to real life situation. There are 3 papers for the class. No final, but there is a portfolio due. She is also big on annotations! You actually get graded for it.
With that being said, I am selling my Read to Write book for only $15 with a lot of writing (annotation). message me if you're interested **********

If you have time and are genuinely interested in become a better writer then this is the class for you.
She is a clear teacher and allows you to revise and edit your papers until there are perfect.
However, the workload in this class is very, very heavy. I definitely felt as if I was drowning at some points.
