This was the hardest class I've taken at UCLA so far and it really shouldn't be because the subject matter is not difficult. The Prof. is completely inept in "teaching" the students what to know, she simply throws all the subject matter at you and expects you to know everything. I couldn't believe her tests either, the questions were very specific to the book and by the way the final is cumulative and you must remember Ch 1-5 along with 6-10/13, oh and the films we watched in class and her lecture notes. I couldn't believe it when the T.A. told us she had to fight for the "short answer" questions to be given to us or else we all would have failed. And on average those "short answer" questions were at least 2 pages so u had about 6 pages total for 3 questions along with 55 questions of hardcore "detail-oriented" material. This class sucked and I can't believe this wasn't even a major requirement for most people in the class, like me. So I def. would NOT recommend anyone taking this class unless you like a teacher who expects you to know everything and acts snooty toward students who are frustrated about what to study. My worst class yet! Just wait for the other prof. to come back and teach this course!!
She is a new lecturer and she has a lot to learn. She is not a very genuine person. I would not recommend taking this class as an elective. Her lectures are boring and she expects you to read and know practically the entire textbook. It is not a fun class, even though the material could have been interesting if it was presented in a different manner.
I really wish I hadn't gone to the lectures seeing as how her entire impossible test was out of the book. Her lecture slides are absolutely useless, as they list general concepts and nothing else. She asks way too much of undergraduate students, and we luckily had a TA that fought so we didn't have 6 short answers on the final (my short answer length was about 4 written pages) plus 55 multiple choice questions. I'm a fast test taker, and barely finished the test in the time allotted.
As the TA said, "she is very detail oriented," which basically means she expects you to memorize pretty much everything ever. I took this class "for fun," and regretted it around the midterm. I've heard the other professor for the class is awesome, so if you have a choice, don't take this professor!
Terrible! Here course is so unorganized. The lectures do not coincide with the readings at all. Her exams are rediculously hard for no reason. She excepts too much out of students that have other classes. She wanted us to memorize the whole book, her lectures and the films. She is very rude to students and kind of acts like she is better than them. She talks to some of them like they are her children! Dont take this class if you dont need it. I wish I wouldnt have. O and the TA is nice but she is no help either. She goes along with whatever the teacher says.
