Prof Crosby is a great professor and somehow managed to get us to participate in an 8am class. I also learned a lot about the world and myself in this class, which i am very thankful about.
Nevertheless, here are some important points to consider:
- attendance is required. You get one unexcused absence. After that, your grade drops a whole letter for every class missed. Two tardies count as an absence
- this class has a huge workload. The homework took me more time than chem, bio and math combined.
- you need to participate in class.
Next to that, the class is really fun and truly an easy A or even A+
The workload of this class was hell in the beginning but as you reach week 5 or 6, you will get comfortable with the pace of the class. Make sure you attend EVERY class and complete EVERY HOMEWORK on time. The class is a cakewalk unless you challenge the professor. You will genuinely feel yourself get better with your writing. The lessons are super useful. There are tons of group activities and he always appreciates new ideas and voices. Talk to him during office hours and discuss your narrative's progress. He is always friendly and gives the best advice.
Pro tip: A+ is 99-100%, A is 90+%
so don't stress if you mess up one or two homework.

I really loved this professor and only created an account to write about him. I love English but I also hate it at the same time and it really dreaded me knowing I had to take an English class in college, but professor Crosby changed that for me. He really is a good professor and would've taken him again if I had the chance to. It's surprisingly easy to get an A in his class. Just do what he tells you to do and you'll get an A. I'm not saying he grades based on completion, but he grades based on you doing the work that's asked in the question. No need to be all fancy, but you have to show yourself and your personality. Technically the bare minimum in a class. He changed me not knowing he did. Take him!!!
Crosby is so sweet.
Assignments: There are writing assignments that are due before class. This can be a hit or miss as they are easy but quite tedious work cause of the writing.
Essays: Only 1 essay throughout the quarter but there are drafts needed but it is totally easy because the essay is about you. You only submit I think 2 rough drafts and submit the final revision as the final essay.
Engcomp 2 with Shane Crosby is the move. This class is very easy and consists of many small assignments that will require minimal time per week which effectively pads your grade. The main assignment is a writing assignment about your own personal story it is pretty easy and graded very leniently. You really just have to do the work. Crosby has cool discussion based classes and overall this class is an easy A+.
Mr. Crosby is cool at first but then he becomes heartless later on. He grades very straight to the point and you will have a good grade as long as you do your work. But one thing that ticks him off is PHONES and TARDIES, so don't do that. The final he gave us was absolute TRASH. He never clearly explained how to do the essay or gave us a clear example. He grades our essays so unfairly and never responded back to my emails. I literally had an A in his class for the 6 weeks and it unfairly dropped the last week. Crosby has no life and now I see why. He thinks he knows everything but he doesn't and has no heart about that final or how to recover your grade knowing you were a good student. Overall good class and teacher, but be careful with him cuz he can stab you in the back when you least expect it.
This guy is nice but not accomodating to tardies or absences. I would not recommend taking this class but if you have to definitely do not schedule it right after another class. His policy is that every two tardies will lower your grade by an entire letter grade. This means that if you log into the zoom thirty seconds late or have any sort of technical problems you will be marked tardy with no questions asked. There is a lot of work for this class but it is not extremely difficult so just make sure you keep up and you will be fine.
Very approachable and helpful. Professor Crosby is very engaging and wants his students to do well. Most of the heavy lifting is done earlier on in the class leading up to the midterm which is a rhetorical analysis essay. Some busy work. Very fair grader, holds helpful office hours.
I liked Professor Crosby's teaching! You always knew exactly what he wanted writing wise. This is his second career, so he brings in a lot of insightful experiences that makes his lectures engaging. If you know MLA format and can write a good thesis statement, you're chillllling in this class.
Professor Crosby's class was enjoyable and relatively easy. As long as you follow his instructions on prompts exactly how he wants them, there is no reason for him not to give you an A. Also make sure you are never late to class and never miss class as that can impact your grade negatively.
