Okay, Dr. Abachi. examples given on the board are very difficult to follow. If you try re-reading your notes before a test you probably wont get it. The final and second midterm were the hardest tests I have ever taken at UCLA. they really sucked. over 80% of the class took up the fulll 3 hours and went over time. It was absolutely ridiculous. He should have made the final easier, as it was worth 40% and not focus 60+% on the last two chapters, which were hella hard. the best way to get in touch with him is through e-mail as his office hours, though nicely and frequently offered, are located all the way to hershey. He is a funny teacher, very caring about students needs as he breaks during the lecture to see if people have questions, and he has physical examples and experiments during the class which is absolutely awesome. If he made easier tests, I would take him. The quizzes he gave online for the students should not be given. They were way too advanced. take him if you are hard-core studier.
Okay, Okay, so I had never taken physics in high school, so seeing that my first Physics class ever was going to be taught by a professor with such low reviews scared the crap outta me. But I had no choice since he was the only one teaching the course. So to say the least, he wasn't as terrible as I expected him to be. Class lecture has a 50-50 chance of being helpful. So bascially, every other day I actually learned something and knew how to use it with all of his in-class examples. His first midterm was a joke...it was cake, but his second midterm and final progressively got harder...but not that much harder. If this review isn't of much comfort to you, take it from me that I at least laughed every 5 minutes because of all his corny jokes and random comments. Overall, he was what I would rate as a "6" rather than a "2." So in the end I joyously recieved an "A" in his class, though I must give a lot of credit to Professor Corbin and his workshops/OH. They clear things up alot. Oh, and take Corbin's workshop...you get his teaching ability WITHOUT his tests! (life doesn't get any better than that). Just watch out for his flying markers...
I have not idea what any of these people are taking about. Maybe the 6A people just don't understand anything with math, but prof Abachi is a nice guy and always stops to awnser questions. He's clear and always will put up and extra example if you are confused. Even sometimes during offices hours he will offer you some tea! He's such a cool guy and his accent isn't bad at all, but he makes fun of it a lot. I would say if you take physics try and take it with Abachi.
I found Abachi's intructions very interesting. He was well organized and came to class exactly on the clock. He is one of the greatest professors I have met at UCLA. I took his class in summer before i started my freshman year and he made my transition very rewarding. His teachings were advanced and difficult yet he taught it in a way where i can follow. I highly recommend him and sadly when i did begin my freshman year at UCLA I was unfortunate to not have an instructor like him.
