Professor Tymochko is super nice and one of the most accommodating professors I've ever met at UCLA. She not only teaches very clearly in class but also posts nicely written lecture notes every time after class. Her homework assignments definitely served as good practice to help me better understand the materials, and she also gave us a 48-hour grace period for each assignment (which was super nice)! We also have biweekly quizzes every Friday (changed from in-person to online) and I think they also helped me better learn the content while keeping me on track. For our midterms and finals, we were only allowed to bring a notecard for our cheatsheet (which could be a little bit of a small space), but the tests are reasonable and nothing was super beyond scope. As long as you put in effort to listen in class and work on the homework, everything should be good. Professor Tymochko also patiently answers every student's questions during her office hours, and even asked us to fill out surveys to gauge everyone's opinions about the course workload and pace. Overall, I would definitely recommend taking the course with Professor Tymochko!!
The professor gives very average lectures, basically just following the textbook chapters word for word. The material itself was interesting at times but mostly boring (just looking at different graphs and drawing curves). The exams are fairly easy (one index card of notes is allowed) and the weekly homeworks are just 5-8 textbook problems. She does not do much motivation of the concepts and for that reason this course was rather uninteresting.
This is the first review I am writing on bruinwalk because I just want to talk about how much I appreciate Professor Sarah. She's the sweetest and her lectures are very clear! The exams were extremely fair and reasonable, and doing the homework actually helps. There was one midterm, one final, 5 quizzes, and 8 homework (lowest dropped). She's very accommodating and nice. Overall the material is also very interesting and I definitely learned A LOT. Hands down one of the best math classes I have taken at UCLA and that's 99% because of Sarah. EVERYONE TAKE THIS PROFESSOR IF YOU GET THE CHANCE TO!!
I really like this professor. She explains the material well and truly cares about her students. If you are struggling she would be happy to clarify things during class or in her office hours. She is also very accommodating and takes feedback from students (she has an anonymous google form to give her feedback). Her lectures are also engaging.
If you do the homework/ quizzes and understand them well, then you should do well on her exams. She also drops the lowest HW/ quiz. There is one midterm, whose score can be replaced by the final exam score if you do better.
*Lectures are not recorded but she does post notes
*Attendance is not mandatory
