Professor himself is very knowledgeable and a pretty good lecturer. However, I found the class to be very boring and way too much reading for a GE class. The 2 hour discussions were also very hard to get through. We had to turn in a 2 page paper every week which required us to do the dry/boring readings and write about them; this got to be a big hassle. Overall I would not recommend taking this class for a GE when there are plenty of more interesting ones out there that cover the same requirement.
Professor Subrahmanyam is unbelievably knowledgeable and really will answer any question. He does a pretty good job going over the entire history of India and gives a well-rounded unbiased opinion. The discussion is kind of hard to bear since it's two hours long, but that is the only negative I experienced in the class. The Professor himself is the best I've had for a GE.
Overall a pretty good professor. His lectures are interesting and decently intertaining. The Mid-term is 2 Five Page take home essays so really not too bad. Most of the class was South Asian which was pretty cool. I am not and although some of the class had kind of a head start it didn't matter. He is a nice guy who whill take all questions even if they are ridiculous. Good amount of reading but I didn't do it all and I was fine. Really a genius who knows his stuff. I recommend this class even if you have a little bit of interest in Indian History.
