I didn't have to take this course, I took it solely because of my interest in Virology after taking MIMG102.
Oh did I regret it. The two people before me are completely right. Not only is she condescending, but her grading system is completely arbitrary. For the second quarter, she decided to give my group mates an A- and gave me a B+. Given that the class is almost exclusively group work, I confronted her about it. She said what my group mates got was absolutely none of my business. Sorry lady, when 95% of the class is group work, I think it is my business.
AVOID AT ALL COSTS.
Previous review is right- she's condescending. Basically, this class was horrible. The stuff we do is awesome (the experiments are very interesting), but the amount of busywork we have to do for it is ridiculous. You basically have to copy the procedure from the lab manual to a lab notebook for each experiment you do.
This is insane. We're upperclassmen; we shouldn't be doing this kind of kindergarten work. It's just re-copying/copy-pasting/following directions. This experiment has definitely ruined my early MIMG experience. I just hope it gets better later on, because my life just feels so somber and bleak at this point... if my mood could be explained in terms of weather, it would be a dark, terrible thunderstorm. Normally, I'm an A student, but I refused to do this mindless busywork and ended up with a B- in the class. My advice is to just suck it up and do the useless work, and try to survive the emotional onslaught of condescension that is Dr. SL. BRACE FOR IMPACT!
